Artcurial Auctions of Paris in February 2016 during Retromobile is offering the spectacular Ferrari 335 S Spider Scaglietti #0674 coming from the Mas du Clos Collection of the late Pierre Bardinon.
    Estimate: Euro € 28 M to € 32 M.

Amazing car, and maybe the most advance Ferrari sportscar of it's time considering Ferrari re used the engines basic design in the P2 and P3 cars 9 years later. #0674 might be the best looking of the 315/335 cars also, but it never won a championship race with the works team(it did win several races after being sold).

    MiniDelta model:

One time, while visiting Pierre, he asked me if I had a favorite Ferrari. Off the top of my head, I responded the 412MI. He then proudly showed me this car. Not quite the same, but I agree that its beautiful, maybe THE most beautiful.

    Absolutely totally fascinating car. Mindblowing.
Most people have no idea what a 335 S is.
Forget all the 250 GTO's, 250 TR's and Cal Spiders. That's pure fashion.
If I had that money I would only buy 0674 or 0684 (the 57 MM winner), naturally besides 0286 AM, 5841 and 0870.

These cars were terribly complex and a nightmare to maintain, but are the greatest Ferrari's ever built. I am lucky enough to have driven many hundreds of miles behind the wheel of the 412 MI. No other automobile engine sounds like these Bellentani-designed units. At about 5,500 rpm, it just goes nuts! The pull is unbelievable. I never went past 7,500 but it was just getting going. Phil Hill told me they used 8,200 rpm for ENDURANCE racing. I questioned him, but he was adamant that these motors would run like that all day long. He also told me these cars were his favorite Ferrari's. Complex: Each distributor has four set of points.

A couple of points, I wonder how much this sale was influenced by RM sale of the 290MM and what if any reflection a non sale in New York will take. It is astonishing that Artcurial who would have been well behind RM, Gooding & Bonhams just 2 years ago in the auction pecking order would now appear to have proven themselves and be capable of making sales of this stature, although being French may have helped. $30 - 34 million USD is a lot of moolah.

It is mos def a beautiful full classic even number Ferrari and very cool that years after the last really big even number Ferrari was offered at auction we now have two in 8 weeks :)

    You don't have all information.
There is ZERO connection to RM's sale of the 290 MM.
The French socialist government finally wants the inheritance tax paid (Pierre Bardinon died 17 August 2012, his widow Yanne 11 December 2013). It appears that more than 30 M € are due plus interests. If you don't have enough cash you have to sell one of your assets. TPTB also defined that it must be sold in France and by a French auction house.

I have to agree the 412MI, but it was technically a "mongrel" compared to the 290, 315, and 335 original cars.

I have to agree with Marcel!

It was Phil Hill's favorite as well.......

I hope they get the Tax Money, then.....

Are they attempting to retain most of the collection??

The only connection I contemplated was whether it gave the family the impetus to sell hence why I questioned the timing. BUT you are correct that I did not (nor do I) know about the French inheritance law and its taxation affects. Thanks for the information.

Amenasce asked what is left in the collection? Do you know and do you want to share? From my reading of your comments, I assume they are planning on retaining what is left in the collection or am I getting a little carried away with myself AGAIN :). Edit - have just read your last post, thanks Marcel

    Geeeee...what a car!!! So I can`t agree more.
This is a real men-Ferrari. Fast, brutish, bad breaks, lots of understeering! A real handful to drive -- but what car!

For me this one (and the 500TRC) is the best looking barchetta from Maranello!

    Ciao!

Marcel, thanks god someone says the same that i think. If i had that money, believe me, 315S or 335S are THE cars that i would buy, more than any other car in the planet. Thank you. 0684 is so amazing too, but i have something with Mas Du Clos and Bardinon, and 0674 after all.. It arrived 2nd on that MM. I know.. As Senna said "the second is the first of the loosers", but anyway.

    Best,
    N.

PD. I think it´s a great opportunity to share some photos of 0674 as there are just a few around of it. All the photos that i ve seen of the car are the ones that appear on barchetta.

PD 2. The current custodians of this cars are the Bardinon´s sons?

Still there is a connection though with the 290MM sale, as it is just coming 2 month later. And if you are a collector ready to pay this type of money for this type of car, you may as well wait for the 335S as it is a more advanced car and arguably better looking car than the 290MM. And 2nd in MM rather than 4 th if it makes a difference...

On another note, I think that the French tax office is quite flexible, this is more than 2 years after the succession has been opened ...I would not be surprised if they had tried to do an in kind settlement , you can do that for paintings, the car could have ended up in Mulhouse Musee national de l' automobile Schlumpf collection, but of course difficult to negotiate valuations...still in theory it could be preempted by a French museum, I have seen that at auction ( making Herve Poulain furious every time as the museum does not have to bid, it can just exercise preemption after the final bid...)

I noticed from several color photos I have from Sebring 1957 that the Magnesium head covers were not painted(Black and white from Sebring 1957), but at all the other races they were painted silver. What an advanced engine design for 1957. You can thank a lot of it to Jano as he consulted on the head and engine design.
