No-one will probably read this all the way through....I did. Gun control in America: Statistics will completely shock you
What's the point of posting this? You neither live or vote in America, so why get wrapped up in a debate? The media love to run articles that denigrate the USA, it's the source of all the world's problems after all *roll eyes*. Meanwhile an American student was almost beaten to death by a Pakistani gang in London recently, yet no mention in our media. OK to rubbish America, but mustn't spread islamophobia, must we?
It is relevant in the fact the Aussie has been mentioned, again,in having about the most workable gun control,at the moment. ........and besides that,it's the internet,I can post anything I damn well want to,so long as it doesn't breach any of the sites' guidelines and is relevant to the thread.
That would be the same gun control that put a revolver into the hands of a Sydney teenager, who then shot Curtis Cheng in the back of the head?
The point is that guns are neither rampant, nor as easy to get, here, the US is out of control with their gun obsession and it's an easy option to just grab a gun and sort the "problem" out
Yes it would be. What are the murder rates by gun in the U.S. Vs Aust? And tracking that gun used in Sydney will be what puts several crooks in jail.
Stop being ignorant, California has the most gun control of any state. Actually like 14 of the last 15 mass shootings were in controlled gun free zones.
Ignorance is believing that is "controlled" , FFS, how many more of these things have to happen before you wake up and ACTUALLY do something realistic ??!! These is enough of this going on now that you can devote a whole TV channel to it ...... well done , very intelligent
Good to see Rob Lay's wingman turn up with some solid counterplay Gun control works like this in a "gun free zone" : 1. arrive at border to "gun free zone" 2. hand over any gun related weapon 3. if found in "gun free zone" with gun, automatic prison time Obviously this is NOT understood by you lot, you need your guns in case the government goes "rogue" Yeah, I'm sure your pea shooters will do very well against the govt arsenal
John, you have FAR fewer shootings in Australia than we do in the USA. Yet, you DID have 2 mass shootings (albeit for a total of what, 12 or 14?) in 2014. Gun control WOULD likely slow the killing down in the USA, but most certainly would not STOP it, and it very certainly would not stop terrorist or extremist events like that which happened today in California. What those of us in the USA need to do is change our attitudes towards gun violence & violence in general, not so much give up guns owned by law abiding citizens who use them for lawful and reasonable purposes.
Hi David, you seem reasonable so please tell me, who should own guns and for what purpose ? I believe there is no honour in requesting a gun to go kill animals, unless the animal being killed has the same opportunity in killing the hunter. We have supermarkets here if we need food, better range and quality too Gun clubs, sport ? What is the end game ? I totally agree that gun deaths would NEVER be stopped by control alone (unless I am given free reign over the world ) In my world the only people NEEDING a gun are : 1. military 2. police (and even they should be limited if there were proper gun control) 3. farmers (maybe, but whatever they need killed should be done by professionals) 4. professionals ^^^^ I'm ex-military so I have a healthy respect for weapons and have been trained in the use of them but I still abhor them
I'm guessing you've never been rabbit, goat or pig shooting? Australia is infested with introduced feral species, which are hugely damaging to the natural environment. Shooting is an effective control mechanism and it takes a lot of skill (just ask Wes). I started rabbit shooting as a teenager, my father taught me gun safety and it was a regular weekend activity for us, which resulted in rabbit stew for dinner. I tried pig shooting but found it too scary, a wild boar is quite capable of killing a human and I'm not good enough with a heavy rifle. I don't agree with duck hunting btw, or big game hunting in Africa. If it's not feral, leave it be.
Well, another day, another mass shooting here in the Good Ol' USA. This time in San Bernardino, CA. 14 dead, 17 injured, using "long guns." Gotta love that term "long guns." Really a misnomer, I think they mean semi-automatic or automatic weapons, but who am I to tell the news dudes what kind of terminology to use. Another idiot talking head on the news here today suggested that they would have been better off with handguns, since the attack occurred in an enclosed space, showing that: 1. Newscasters are idiots, and 2. Newscasters are idiots. Yup, a 9mm handgun (max 15 rounds) is surely going to be more effective than an AK 47 or AR-15 with 30 or more rounds, in an enclosed area. Besides, it's easier to buy a rifle than a handgun, especially in California. Looks right now like they've caught/killed 2 out of 3 of the attackers. I am made both sad and weary by these continual attacks here. Oh, my kid works in San Bernardo County for the Public Defender's Office, so this was in his backyard, almost literally. Given the circumstances, I'm thrilled they activity didn't occur in his part of the county. He sent me a text this afternoon letting me know he wasn't dead, that the "activity" was pretty far away from his office. I am not a gun control advocate, well not exactly, but I sure as hell am getting tired of this. Newscaster said 21st mass killing this year in USA (defined as 4 or more fatalities in an armed attack.) Got room there in Australia for me and the wife? D
Journalists just as dumb, a lot less guns (unless you want to go to Western Sydney - silly, nobody wants to go to Western Sydney), but you'll want to come to Qld if you like Florida weather. Oh, and no Donald Trump
