No "the Donald" almost makes the deal seem too good to be true. That man is a joke. That 20-30% of Republican voters indicate they'd vote for him just blows my mind.

    hmmm...

Biggest issue for me is my 4 kids would be WAY too far away. Ok, going to check into Central America and see what it has to offer.

I'm loading up on some more before they are banned. IU bet gun sales take off again.

If you want to adress the issue, then lets start adressing mental health issues and tracking peopel with serious mental problems. I'll bet that by far the majority if not all mass killings are by people on mental medication. The balance are terrorists.

Of the rest of gun killings in the USa most are suicides, some are accidents and the balance gangs killing eachother.

Relatively few people are killed by guns in robberies. Get rid of crazies, and terrorists, the average person has little to fear from guns.

Dont track crazies, allow terroists to proliferate and the average person has pretty much the same danger, banned guns or not.

BTW the reason why we dont track crazies on medication is because the mental health industry fears these walking timebombs will be stigmatised and wont seek help thereby depressing drug sales.. As to weather so large a portion of the nation should be on medications, and walking about unoticed no one has the courage to say. Lets just say mental health medications are way way way overprecribed, and every now and again someone is going to pop.

Drug companies need to ban guns so their clients(many of whom whould otherwise be fine anyway) are not stigmatised by tracking into not buying their products, fundementaly thats the battle.

Oh wow, where do I start? Pro gun paranoia? Big pharma conspiracy? Expert opinions on gun crime statistics? Spelling? I think I'll just let that one slide through to the keeper.

I read a stat the other day that if you include the 3 dead or more rule you guys have had a "mass" killing EVERY day this year ...... so keep going , only 28 days left !!

    http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/ng-interactive/2015/oct/02/mass-shootings-america-gun-violence

We have no room left Dave, the 12,000 Syrians took up the last spaces on the refugee intake :)

Plus we don't allow law abiding people to have guns, that is reserved for the criminals

We have supermarkets here, too. I also have close friends who survive for much of the year on meat from deer they have hunted & frozen. Their family of 4 goes through about 3 full large deer per year.

Otherwise? I believe guns are quite valid for home/property defense. With the amount of meth & other drugs being used, a home invasion by one or more deranged people should be considered unlikely, but a distinct possibility - and I'd rather be prepared for the worst than have my family destroyed.

so do you take full responsibility for the pork, beef, and chicken you purchase from supermarkets to eat? what conditions were those sources of meat raised in? what was their quality of life and were you there when the animal was killed and butchered? I hunt animals in the wild and I personally appreciate and take full responsibility for their harvest. My hands get bloody and I know first hand what I'm eating, it isn't something I try to distance myself from and not think about like buying from supermarket.

I'm ok with most of your premise. However, I'm law abiding, married to a former FBI agent, and we have SEVERAL hand guns at our home.

HOWEVER, happy to trade them in before emigrating to Australia. :D

    Heard of free range ?

You may not know this but the world has moved on from the hunter/gatherer stage unless you're in a third world country.

You guys will come up with any excuse to hold a gun in your hands.

We have home invasions here too, but guess what, they are mostly due to the home invaded being a drug outlet of some kind or other as I'm sure it is in the US

free range is a bunch of B.S. you are telling me you only eat free range? fact is you don't, most people don't, and restaurants don't because it costs more. free range meat supply is only a small percentage of the total world demand.

yes, you have certainly moved on, you have started peeing sitting down.

Well, at least we do not need the same nanny government to protect us from the "evil guns" and were you were so afraid of your own shadow that you gave up freedom to be protected by the government.

To give up liberties and individuality and require protection by third party is de-evolution, not enlightenment.

I am sure AU will experience a huge influx of American liberals that can't handle the freedom and are ready to be cocooned by the all intrusive and all knowing government.

When you need to lie to yourself to make yourself feel better, so be it.

I love Australia and the Australian people. I like the cities, restaurants, and beaches. I couldn't get over how socialist Australia was not even talking about gun control. City street workers with no education are guaranteed a high yearly salary and the highly educated doctor only a low % over that. Taxes are unbelievably high there like buying cars. The most striking indication of nanny state was when Pap took me to the lake by Mt. Isa. They actually fence people in around the dam walkway so they don't hurt themselves.

That's what I love about the United States. I think government is too big, but in comparison to Australia it is small and we have much lower taxes for it. The hard working smart educated doctor in United States has freedom to make 10x that of a dumb uneducated street worker. If someone wants to hurt themselves walking off a dam, then we allow them to do that. natural selection.

I was talking IQ but you're not smart enough to pick up on that :p

And if you think doctors here earn a smidgen more that street sweepers you're nuts.

What happened here when a nutter went off the rails never went far enough for me, ANY gun owner should either hand the gun over or be put in jail

Cars are expensive here because the manufacturers have worked out what they can rape and pillage from the motorist ....... sure some of the taxes are stupid (to protect the "local manufacturer  - like GM and Ford ) but the high cost of exotics is mostly due to price gouging (Ferrari recently dropped the price of the new 488 by $50k !!)

The fact you don't care about anyone else's safety speak volumes of the problem with America and it's attitude to the disadvantaged.

We see a problem and someone takes ownership, like people being drunk and falling over the edge of a dam or idiots throwing rocks off overpasses onto oncoming traffic, so we put up some wire fencing to prevent tragedies.

You'd think differently if someone threw a rock or fell off an overpass onto your wife's car while taking the baby to hospital wiping out your family in one hit.

Or your son/daughter getting drunk at the dam and losing their balance and falling over the edge and dying.... but hey, natural selection right ?

Don't say you don't do stupid things because you do, we all do, and if the "nanny state" has put up a wire fence to protect us during our "stupid period of life" then that is a good thing.

Yes we are over-governed here and our taxes are high but I won't live in a country that needs guns to feel safe .... we live very well here as you know and yet guns are abhorrent to our way of life
