..Only if they are "good" menbers......but, since you mentioned it i would like to ask you something Do you think the diference between Merc and Ferrari is bigger, smaller or equal to the diference between ferrari and Williams?
Agreed. Of course the guy in the other car would have to be of the same caliber. Put them against an Alonso, Hami or Vettel and they would get waxed. PS driving these car is not simple by any means. Probably the most complicated/ difficult car even more so than the stick shift days.
Probably, but a little doubtful IMO. Sure, those 3 are probably the class of the field right now, but as you well know being in the right place at the right time is *huge* in F1. I'm pretty sure there's not one of them that wouldn't give up their first born for that drive right now. And given the seat, who knows what any of them may be capable of? +1 They may be 'systems engineers' these days, but few seem to grasp the physical and even more the mental demands placed on them today. Pedaling an F1 car quickly has never been 'easy', but if we remove the rose tinteds they're now as close, if not closer, than they've ever been - Hero to zero in a second or so.......
+2 - I laugh anytime I hear "easy" and F1. Still massive horsepower and lightweight, plus downforce to understand and manage, plus too-many-damn-buttons-modes-etc. The only traction control in F1 these days is in your feet and hands.
Lots of answered seem related to who could beat 3rd place from a Mercedes, not who could be WDC. To be WDC in a Mercedes, you would have to beat the remaining Mercedes teammate!!!!
of the current crop, Alonso, Vettel, Button, Ricciardo could most certainly beat Hamilton in the same Mercedes.
Alonso couldn't handle Hamilton at Mclaren. I really don't see that situation changing if Alonso were at Mercedes alongside Hamilton.
Some would argue....including me. If they were both in a crap car, I don't believe it would even be close. Alonso hands down.
Last two years Mercedes advantage has been almost 2 seconds a lap. To find drivers 2 seconds a lap slower than current F1 drivers you'd probably have to go to gt cars.
Nobody can argue that this year's McLaren is a crap car and Alonso has hardly covered himself in glory against his teammate. Beat by Button in points, and barely outqualifying Button (who is hardly the fastest qualifier - Magnussen outqualified him as well). So I have no clue where your presumption that Alonso would be able to beat Hamilton in a crap car comes from.....
Any of the current crop of F1 drivers including the pay drivers and those past their best could win in this years Merc which is one of the all time great F1 cars. In fact, it has a good case to be the GOAT. However, to win the wdc takes a different temperament. I would say any current F1 driver who has already won the wdc can do it, even Kimi. The young guns like Verstappen and Sainz would also be there or there abouts. Ricci has what it takes for sure. Even the Hulk and Perez would be close. As for the Manor boys - I wouldn't bet on any of them - not proven at the sharp end and they have never had the pressure to win. As for Massa - not a chance I'm afraid. Nice chap but now well past his best, which, as we all know, wasn't good enough either.
A reasonably fair assessment with the exception of Massa, I think that he has surprised many(including me) with his form this season. I believe that virtually any of the current drivers(agree with you on Manor) would rise to the occasion with such a superior car. Even Maldonado, as pointed out previously when you start from the front row you have fewer entanglements especially at the start.
The Ferrari is less than half a second a lap slower - the difference between the worst and best driver on the grid is probably 2 seconds a lap. You are all grossly overestimating Ferraris race pace is actually pretty good. Chuck a slow driver in the merc and they will lose to Ferrari. I mean nico almost lost to Vettel. Totally misguided some of the answers here
I never said nico was slow... I was saying if nico nearly lost to Vettel then why are people naming a bunch of slow drivers thinking they could win a wdc in the merc
Because we believe they could. As you very well know, when turned up the Merc showed itself to be nearly 2 seconds a lap faster than everything else. It was so far ahead. It's the inverse to Manor. The only surprise is that they didn't win every race and the blame for that rests entirely with the strategists not the drivers. The cars the GOAT. The drivers are garnish.
