Every time I take an engine out, I cut the hoses off so I don't skin my knuckles trying to wrestle them. Then I go down to Kragen and get replacements coolant hoses, <$100. Not bad for every five years. I don't buy Dave's hoses because they would be too expensive to cut off.

Glad to when your hose find is the same quality as the SRI hose at 1/10th the price. I will take both you out to dinner.

I can find hose that fits on ebay cheaper than yours. It's silicone too. It is not the same.

So are you tying to tell me that the Samco hoses the F1 teams are running are inferior????

    Please chubby, lets be serious.

Sure the SRI hoes are good quality, but they are way over priced in my opinion. Way over priced for a product that is farmed out to be made.

Thats correct, the problem is equally applicable to all old cars. The solutions are equally applicable also. There are no special requirements on replacement hoses on these cars over others.

Let me know where you source the Samco hoses for 1/10th the price. Please post the Ferrari specific SRI vs. Samco hoses price list.

Where is the comparison to SRI hose?

Where is the molded Samco hose that is molded in Ferrari shapes?

Yap all you want. Start producing data.

I put NAPA hoses in my QV. My mechanic originally suggested the SR hoses as well, but I balked at the prices. We discussed it and he said that while the SR hoses are very good, the NAPA hoses will do just fine for 10 years, give or take. At 1/10 the cost i can replace them twice over 10 years during routine service and still be ahead of them game financially. Am I missing something?

I did opt for the SR fuse box. Seemed like the best option, although quite an expensive one.

The 348 hoses are pretty simple.

(all prices taken from the price sheet pdf link I posted earlier)

There are 4, 90º bend, 35mm id hoses for the radiators = $29.03 each
    1, 45º bend, 35mm id hose from the water pump = $29.26
    1, 60º bend, 35mm id hose from the thermostat hosing = $29.26
1, straight, 35mm id hose from the water pump to the crossover piping to the heads = $71.15
1, straight/flexible, 20mm id hose from the radiator feed tubing to the expansion tank = $62.47 ( that one comes in a 3' section and you only need like 6" inches of that, so it can get saved for the next go around saving more money :))
1, flexible, 10mm hose running from the expansion tank to the cross over pipe under the plenum = $42.03
Coming to a grand total of $350.29 for virtually all the hoses needed on a 348 engine out major (I didn't look for the hoses for the heater, but it shouldn't be any more expensive). Hoses from the same company that the Ferrari F1 race team has been using for years. The same Ferrari F1 team that has been running insanely hot engine bay temps with the new turbo engines.

So $350 for hoses from the Formula 1 supplier, versus $1161 from a company that does not supply F1 and farms out the work.

Like I was saying, over priced in my opinion. If it's good enough for F1 it's good enough for me, and at a fraction of the price.

I know, I know, it's not 1/10 the price. So I guess you get out of feeding me a steak dinner on a technicality. :p Not to worry though I'm not gonna cry about it.

Now it's your turn to start producing data fatboy. Where is the data for SRI burst testing hmmmmmm????? I already posted a link for the burst pressure from Samco. So start posting up the data lardass.

You are the one supporting tf308. I still see no ferrari shaped hose from Samco. My time is money. I'm not researching which samco's fit and spend time cutting them. Go find me a Ferrari 550 top radiator hose in the samco catalog or anyone elses except Ferrari or SRI. The ends of the 550 hose are one size on the engine side and another on the radiator side.

You keep talking Ernie...I am not convinced. No steak dinner for you! When you find that Ferrari 550 hose in the samco catalog let me know...While you are spending all your time looking...

4:30pm in Sunny Socal. Bar-be-que weather! I think I will grill me a steak for dinner.

Even if I can find preformed Samco hoses for a 550 there is no convincing you. You have been drinking the kool-aid way too long.

So you go ahead and wash down that steak with a nice cold glass of that kool-aid you love to drink.

It is pretty simple. You and tf308 shot your mouths off and you can't deliver.

    Peace...out.

    Hahahahaaaa.

You're just pissed because I proved there are viable options out there that do not cost thousands of dollars.

People can buy normal hoses for less than $100 at your local autoparts store. People can also buy quality silicone hose from the actual manufacture, and supplier to Formula 1 at a fraction of the price.

    Drink up kool-aid boy.

Just did some googling... Someone mentioned that the SAMCO hose is too "bling." It looks like it also comes in black, which is much more appealing than the blue...

Searching this site, I also see lots of folks just used the regular NAPA hose very successfully...

Most of the coolant lines seem pretty reachable, so if one does leak, changing it seems doable...

I aspire to being able to buy the Dave Helms kit... One day :).

Point made. No need for me to respond. Old hoses fail. Again, BFD, they are old. But I will still note that no one has addressed why an SRI fuel hose is superior to a "common" J30R9 hose. And when it come to coolant hoses it's a bigger stretch. Going back to the OP original question of value and cost, we know the cost, where is the increased value? No one wants to address that. You just get all defensive and start labeling people who look at this fundamentally and ask the questions as haters. So be it. When you stoop to that level of a response it just shows you have no defense and you have lost the argument.
