Hi guys - Is anyone else experiencing the same problems I am in getting spare parts out of Ferrari Italy? I have been waiting for almost 5 months for parts for my 458 with no end in sight. - Is this the norm?

You might want to give a little more information such as nature of parts and your territory since it seems very unlikely that you personally have ordered from Ferrari Spa

Hi Jimmie - I'm in Australia and, as you correctly point out, have certainly not ordered directly from Ferrari SpA. The parts were ordered thru the local dealer and include the following:

Inner park sensor housing, tow hook cover clip, headlight washers, door seals and front crash sensor

A friend has aso been waiting for several months for range of parts for his 458.

I know that the issues may vary from territory to territory, but I was interested from a general perspective, as the comments that I have received from a number of people are that Ferrari SpA is not known for its customer care! That surprises me, so I am wondering if the view is held more widely.

You may want to consider other outlets for parts. Many very respectable companies sell second hand parts that are like new and can ship directly to you. Unfortunately these parts are usually available due to an accident but they are still factory parts. It just takes some leg work to find what you need. Dealers are an excellent source but at times when parts are needed that are currently hard to source from Ferrari and that are not safety and soundness, other options exist.

Thanks, Peter. I appreciate your comments. I had Maseratis for over 2 decades and thru that experience, found Eurospares from which I sourced at a good price original parts. I have been more relctant to do that with my 458, and was also wondering what the general experience is of other Ferrari owners.

Michael that does seem like a long time to get those Ferrari parts, you might want to try to find another Ferrari dealer on what time frame they can get those parts or try another avenue online.

Once I made a comments regarding the shortage of parts in the near future for our cars. Ferrari made only handful of each model and our cars are over 10 year old and the manufacturer are not making parts anymore. All of us eventually going to start looking around the world even for second hand parts for the price of new one. There is no after market manufacturer for our parts, this is becoming scary even dealers with direct contact with Ferrari can not obtain parts, imagine you have to drive around with no bumper or car is collecting dust for an uncontainable electrical part. There are very few Ferrari dismantler around the world to deal with, as soon as they realize the truth then you know what will happen.

Yeah, passenger side under panel below AC unit and interior rear view mirrors for the 348 are unobtainium now. I custom made or modified my own. Less than $30 each. Hundreds of hours and aggravation though ;)

Thanks, guys, for your comments. My aggravation has been increased because there is only one authorised dealer in my State (which is a pretty good outfit) but understandably it won't fit parts that have come in from sources other than directly to it from Ferrari SpA. In addition, my car is a 2015 model and is this under warranty, so fitting custom made or modified parts (whilst a good and practical suggestion, John) doesn't work as it would void my warranty. - Lazik - your comment rings true. I have heard through the authorised channels that Ferrari changes parts suppliers from time to time as a result of which it simply does not have parts sometimes. I have told my story (of the 5 month wait for parts - and I am still awaiting one part that has left a gap in my bonnet - (it's a headlight washer unit)) to several people and heard back stories of other Ferrari owners who have been waiting 6, 9 or even 18 (no, that is NOT a typo - eighteen) months for parts. So, Paul, your friend is in good company!

Ferrari is now a publicly listed company, on the NY Stock Exchange. One would have thought that investors would be unimpressed by a company that has truly poor back end service, that can't help its reputation. Obviously the upfront issue for investors is the company's profitability, but if the company increases production (as apparently promised when doing the listing), then that is only likely to increase the number of aggravated and frustrated Ferrari owners. Will that hit its stock price at some point? I don't know, but (unlike chicken soup), it can't help!

    Just reading this thread....

something seems "very off" if you are waiting for 2015 model year parts, and at least some of those parts are collision-type parts (eg. washer cover). It may aggravate you, but there are plenty of those parts on the assembly line being used every day...

I've endured my share of "we're waiting on Italy", but in most cases for current generation (less than 10 years old) it's been no better or no worse than any other make we've owned. By definition, owning "low volume, highly customized" cars doesn't help.

We had an early 2013 production FF that needed a windshield from Italy in August, that took a few weeks, right from the supplier. Half that issue was they were shut down for the month! I've seen rear subframes go from order to delivery in Florida in 2-3 weeks.

We had to order some 355 parts during the summer, actual trim pieces, those took a few weeks. I know friends who have ordered parts that were actually manufactured to order....luckily the suppliers were able to do that, and typically that's far from quick.

At least in the case of our dealer/shop, they are very resourceful at finding parts in the legitimate realm (eg. including other dealers, Ricambi, Eurospares) for Genuine Parts, and for older cars where pieces are NLA, they are great at providing options or sourcing used or rebuilt components.

Granted Ferrari are very low volume and try not to over-stock parts (that's just good business) but again, what you're describing sounds odd. I'm sure it's very real to you, but might be worth checking with other dealers/sources directly.

If it's a "genuine" OEM part in the yellow box, sealed, they shouldn't care if you can get it faster.
