these hoses I can personally recommend ...8 years and still like brand new

Any real world benefit of silicone over Napa or Gates?

I would assume that when the time comes to sell, the closer looking to stock the better?

 

Just get the black hoses.

 

Get silicone.

 

No real advantage (IMO). They don't stick to the metal so much so are easier to get off, but that also makes them harder to seal, and easier to blow off if not installed correctly. For that reason special clams are suggested. If they are silicon on the outside as well, they may weather better if you feel 20+ years from a standard hoses isn't sufficient. They generally cost more. I guess some might think that is an advantage. And there is the bling factor. I don't know of any new car manufacturer that uses silicon. They should not be used for fuel, oil or vapor lines.

To be fair , that kit does not include all the hoses in the SRI kit.

The only real disadvantage of most silicone hoses is that they have much poorer external "toughness" (i.e., abrasion & cut resistance). This is an important consideration for an automotive application.

SRI hoses have an added external covering structure that is much tougher than standard silicone ---- which does make them superior in that regard to other silicone hoses available for cars (our Ferraris at least).

They (SRI) are still a bit less tougher externally than many of the H-D EPDM hoses out there (particularly some of the modern constructions made by Gates).

However, with SRI hoses, the goal was to achieve a compromise of the best of both worlds --- superior performance of silicone internally but also with the superior performance of EPDM externally.

 

Just how does silicon provide superior performance internally?

 

Yes the clamps and the absence of the large 2 sized pieces. I believe these are for the ends of the heat exchanger and in that they are not routinely replaced on majors, they are not included in less complete kits.

Those who have done majors can comment on this and where they sourced those pieces as well.

I don't find anything on the internet that defines the improvements offered by silicone OTHER than they are easier to get on or off the car.

But, that also causes them to want to POP off under pressure easier than an OEM set of hoses, requiring different clamps and more careful installation.

I dunno, I just don't see it. Can someone define how silicone is a better hose than rubber OEM hose?
