330 GTC and problems already!

Congrats on the GTC and welcome to Fchat. If you consider your car a "5" because everything is original and hasn't been replaced, bear in mind that the originality would make it an "9+" in many peoples' eyes. It could easily be an "11" if you preserve what's there rather than replace it with new stuff. Too many restorations toss out original parts that could have been easily restored rather than replaced, so there are very few preserved original cars left.

It's your car, so do what you wish of course, but hoping you are able appreciate what makes your car special rather than worry about any deficits to cars that have had everything replaced. A mechanically refreshed regularly driven original car is the holy grail IMO.

LOL -- read it too fast. That makes a LOT more sense. I stand by my comments, though it seems likely the owner already appreciates what he has.

 

Evan......I am happy to hear you are enjoying your time in my fav Ferrari model.

I was able to source a new windshield for my GTC from Tom Shaughnessy. I also bought a rear screen from Tom too but it is still in the box. I think they were made somewhere in Scandinavia....but it was a while ago that I bought them.....so I might be wrong. You might have to wait a while. Only when the glass manufacturer has enough demand would he make a "run" of that particular screen.

I have made some unnoticeable improvements to my GTC since I drive it a lot. And I box and store all the original parts should I ever sell. It's not a show car but a car for driving anywhere and everywhere!

I hate you j/k because the 330 GTC is one of my favorites. No lie but in '88-'89 I came across a for sale ad for a 330 GTC for a mere $10K and I almost had the financing but my friend was scared and got cold feet, he still apologizes to this day for his error.

Sorry but 330's make me digress.

 

Glad to hear that you appreciate Astons as well as F-cars! I have both and appreciate each for their different attributes.

The 330 is my all time favorite though, and something that I aspire to own someday...preferably as a GTS version...

The 330 GTC is one of my all time favorites - such a nice car, they drive great ( for cars of this vintage) and the looks are unparalleled. I was begging my wife to let me buy one back in the late 90's at FOA - they had a silver 330GTC with 54K miles for about $60K... which I though was almost a great price. Sadly it did not happen!

Hello, Evan - welcome to the ownership of what is, in my opinion, the best all-around Ferrari ever made.

I bought mine in November of 1975 from FAF Motorcars, now Ferrari of Atlanta.
I've driven it over 140,000 miles and never regretted the purchase.
It now has almost 182,000 miles.

I do all my own work including the paint job, a major engine rebuild and a transaxle rebuild.

It's a fine driver and I find that using it regularly (daily driver) I tend to have a lot fewer problems.

I have made a number of upgrades including Bosch coils, Haydon cooling fans, a GM alternator and a low oil pressure warning light.

I devised a method of sealing the Borrani wheels such that they can be run tubeless. Inner tubes are a regular pain!

I put whitewalls on the car.

There are a few more mods coming in the near future: Cruise control, remote door locks and a Blaupunkt radio driving four speakers, two of which are in custom-made housings.

If you're interested, I can post some photos of the engine rebuild process.

would love to see the engine building process. i can give you my email if thats easier but posting would be great. mine was rebuilt by famed maserati mechanic Bob Wallace decades ago and still going strong. Still running a pair of motorola Electonic ignition modules from about 1974, with lobe-sense pick ups instead of points.
