So I'm debating to add another car to my collection soon and I'm debating between a Scud, Stradale, and yes, a Porsche....997 GT2 to be exact. I'm mainly a collector looking for something that I can enjoy without the worry of hurting it's value (i.e. something with literally no miles) later down the road. I know the Stradale and GT2 are fairly rare cars but want to hear your thoughts on which one I should really get. I don't track my cars so I'm not looking for a race car but something to take on a short drive on a nice sunny day.

Also, between the three which ones do you think will have most steady appreciation in value? It seems lately the Stradale market has slowed down a little where the Scud market has picked up, but that's simply my observation and I'm not very in-tune with the market so I figure you guys would know better.

I'm pretty knowledgeable with the Porsche market and my take is that the GT3's and RS's have plateaued off lately while the GT2 market is still very undervalued but we are seeing them creep up fast. Hence, why I would consider adding a GT2 also to the collection.

To me, they all seem like they've peaked in value recently. If you buy now, beware getting your butt handed to you if you need to sell in the next 5 years.

Other than that, for the same money I'd get a Scud over the CS or ultimate beetle.

Funny enough, I got to spend some quality time with a 997 GT2 this weekend, and I can tell you unequivocally that it is a TREMENDOUS experience. Very much different, and therefore complimentary, to a Scud or Stradale- not duplicative.

Given that, my advice is to think hard about the Porsche. Given the context of your ownership intentions, it's entirely possible that Stradales and Scuds drop back to (or close to) their lowish watermarks, which means a lot more to lose than on a GT2 given current pricing. If that's the case you'd potentially be able to have both the GT2 and one of the Ferrari (GT2 now plus Ferrari in the future) for not much more than one of the Ferrari (now). Depends on the order with which you'd want to play. Your risk there is that the Stradale/Scud do not eventually correct. However you'd still have a wildly satisfying car in the Porsche in addition to the odds skewed to your favor in terms of future buying power.

And FYI, I've been the biggest Stradale advocate for the 12 years they've been in the marketplace. The GT2 was really that magnificent.

I don't see this happening absent a global financial crisis. CS has peaked as it recently doubled in value. Scud hasn't had that sort of a run yet (it's the newer car), so I don't believe it has "peaked." No idea as to the other options.

Regardless, I don't treat cars as investments. If it happens to increase in value, fantastic, but I buy what I want to drive.

I owned a 2011 GT3RS for a few years and sold it recently to take advantage of the market. Honestly I think it's an overrated car. It excels in many ways, especially on a track, but for regular use it's a bit of a chore to drive. I particularly did not care for the notchy shifter, overly heavy clutch pedal and the uncomfortable seats. The lightweight flywheel is also not suited for street stop/go type of driving. Sound and torque were meh until it revved past 5k. Not to mention that the 997 GT cars have also had their share of motor issues (coolant pipes leaking, cam bolts coming loose, etc). Currently own a scud and I enjoy it way more.

Scud is absolutely magnificent. I've had 911 turbos not gt2. If I had to pick a 911 it would be gt3rs. I love the scud the most. I have not driven new gt3rs but I had to give up my scud for it I'm pretty sure I would not be disappointed. Get the one you like and forget about returns.

I was just speaking to the rise in value ;) even the latest GT3RS' are selling for 100-150k over MSRP which I find staggering...

You want to enjoy the car ~ then step out without much depreciation later right? Then all three fit the bill.

There will always be a butt for every seat that you mention.

Now for plain bombing around without thinking of much more than pure visceral feel - i.e. the experience... Either Ferrari would fit the bill for me (that coming from a guy with six Porsches currently).

But if you head into a drive without any unobtainable expectations then the Stradale is the car. It has the following that it has / because of just that. It can be an experience for the senses each & every time. If you instead want to be the fastest car light to light, or post the highest speed on your street ever, then either of the other two will suffice.

I have driven them all, but voted for the Stradale with my wallet.

    Nices choices!
    I had a heavy modified 360, I own a 997 gt2 and a Scud.
360= A Street go-Gart, pure fun and insane sound
GT2= A beast, fast as hell but very boring. No sound no soul.
    Scud=Priceless ;-)

I too debated a gt2 before buying my Scud but knew the Scud was the way to go.
It far surpasses the driving experience you will get from any Porsche except maybe a Carrera Gt or 918.
I then went the gt3 rs route and feel they actually really complement each other. I love driving them back to back because they are just so differnt. I feel the rs is great on the streets, comfortable and a blast to drive. The Scud is a beast and has a viceral driving experience you can never get sick of.
I hope both these cars have a future upsides but it's probably best to buy what you like and enjoy what you have. Who knows what can happen tomorrow.
Btw Stradale is next inline for me.

    Take the Scud.

The GT2 is a great car, this is out of question.
But the GT2 will always stand in the shade from the GT2 RS, you will never had the flagship of a product line, and that is not very advantageous if you want to collect.

If you're really looking for a collector Porsche it's going to be the GT2 RS or the GT3 RS 4.0.

I found you a great GT2 with only 4,600 miles on it. Black / black, carbon ceramic brakes and carbon bucket seats. I've had my eye on it.

I'm targeting a BAC Mono next to compliment the Scuderia. Hopefully, that tides me over until the 488 Speciale arrives then I'll try to get that too.

Best sounding NA motor + Best performance Forced Induction motor + Open seater = happy stable

If prices haven't dropped, then how do you figure they've "peaked"?

Actually meant IF they've peaked, it would be because the cars have appreciated so much in so little time. I have no idea about the current state of the market for the CS or where prices are heading. Don't see any of these cars plummeting in value over the next 5 years though, again absent a financial crisis.

I had a 997 GT2, fun car yeah... but lacks "soul" and sound for me that's why I let it go. Replaced it with the new 991RS and that car is really something!!!! (also a keeper) I've learned that if you're getting a Porsche, it should be an RS! I also have a Scud together with my GT2 before, Porsche is really a nice car and fun at the track too same with the Scud... but the Scud is special! It has "soul", racing heritage, F1 sound that make you want to drive it more and more from time to time! Did I mention a true F1 sound?!?! So it's really a special car and if you have the opportunity to own one then do it... I'm sure you won't regret the decision you made. Just makes me SMILE everytime I drive it! :)

All collectibles have appreciated a lot in a short period of time. This is nothing specific to the CS.

Things are either going up or going down. They don't stay the same.

Of course they do. Things can appreciate and then plateau for a while, just like stocks. Happens all the time. And CS's have popped much more than the scud. That's specific to the CS. I believe part of the differential is due to the CS being the older car and I think the scud has yet to make its run. As for which to invest in, I would go scud over CS because of the CS's recent run. Just like with stocks, it's better not to buy after a big run as things will likely plateau for a while before make a further significant increase.

The CS and SCUD aren't the only collectible cars on the planet.

There are a lot more SCUDS on the planet than CS's. Supply is a big part of the price differentiantion.

I don't follow Porsche as much as Ferrari so I'd buy a SCUD if I were going to buy right now but considering I think they're all extremely expensive I will wait til they all take a dump and then go on a buying spree.

That's does make me ask another question...... What were F40's trading for in 2005 vs. 2011/2012?

Id go with the Stradale. It's the perfect mix of raw, beautiful, useable, exciting, fast and rare. The Scuderia is a great car but it just didnt excite me as much as the Stradale does.

No experience with the 997 gt2.
