My fiancé gave me a Blaupunkt Toronto radio for the GTC.
I installed a pair of excellent Jensen speakers in the doors but the sound wasn't quite what I wanted.
I bought a pair of Dual DWS404 4 inch four-way speakers and built these little cabinets.
After calculating the dispersion angle, I designed the cabinets to focus approximately 80% of the sound towards the driver and passenger, with the central axis focused on our heads.
The speakers will sit on the rear parcel shelf, held in place with small aluminum strips.

As soon as the system is up and running, I'll post an evaluation.

Let me know how your new sound system set-up works. A sound system is one of the remaining "to dos" for my GTC. What do you use for a sound source? I have a period correct radio in the car, but plan on installing an MP3 hookup in the glove box. And maybe an amplifier in the spacious trunk. I don't want to change the look much but definitely want to make the GTC better. And that includes a sound system.

I owe you info or pics of my a/c install.....Sanden....bigger condensing unit, and MB blower motor. Other than the Sanden you can't see any difference when opening the hood.

We think alike......make our GTCs better. And they are already great cars to drive anytime.

Steve: This is the radio I plan to use in my GTC, a Blaupunkt Toronto 420 BT.
It's quite versatile having both SD card and USB inputs.
The two-knob feature gives it the appearance I want.
The output power is 22 watts sine for each of the four speakers and 50 watts max for each speaker. 4 ohm speakers are recommended.
More information is available from Blaupunkt.com or Crutchfield electronics.

Nice build, but why the spacers? These will not radiate sound properly especially at lower frequencies, as this setup will be an acoustic short-circuit. They will sound better if the cabinet is enclosed around the speaker. Strassacker: Speaker Building, Components

Exactly. The speakers should be sealed.

I added panels to seal the speakers in the original GTC enclosures and it helped make the old Becker sound better without visible change. I posted this after discussing with a guy at a car meet, but somebody gave me crap about it because he wrongly thought it was post 60's technology. Actually the Ferrari dealer installations just didn't include the detail.

    You are both correct.
The reason for the spacers is that the tweeter protrudes 1/2 inch in front of the mounting flange.
I left the bottom off just to show the innards.
The speakers sound fantastic with the bottom sealed.

Nice, it's cool that such small speakers sound good. Thanks for sharing.
