Guys, As some of you may know I was seeking for EURO lenses for quite some time as I bought my Mondial with a broken lens. I have switched to USA/UK lenses for a while as I just couldn't find any EURO units and just some weeks ago I found an EURO flashing unit (took me 6 months to find it). I have not fitted my EURO flashing units... I need to warn those who do not like chopping things apart. Stop reading here if you cannot handle it .. ... I made a sacrifice in chopping up 4 flashing light units (2 new and 2 old) since I got still one black unit where the glass was broken and got another broken one for the other side. Yes you might have guessed already in the reading above. I used the glass ones to make a copy. EURO and US/UK one. Took me some time, but I am pleased with the result. I have replaced my glass lenses with epoxy lenses and made it a French look, with a yellow reflector. I created these from quality A epoxy that is UV resistant, but in my humble opinion there is no epoxy that can handle UV radiation fully so I put a UV protection lack layer on top of it. Here is my result. These units carry epoxy lenses. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Wow, that can solve the problem for a lot of people I guess. These original things are pretty pricey. I'm glad the mondi8 & QV carries the more common Cibie foglights. They are dirtcheap.
BLOODY INCREADIBLE!! Rubber mould and liquid resin vacuumed? Pics would be great....Bloody increadible job!
Sorry guys! Some urgency in my daily work happened. I will try to post some pics today. Thanks for liking it yep indeed Bell! and a bit more
They look great, but there is still the one big issue. No one has ever successfully removed the glass lens (broken or not) from the housing to replace it with a new glass one, plastic, or resin. This has come up a few times on the 328 forum. There are some after market lenses available, but no procedure to install them. If you have found a way to remove the original glass from the housing without damaging it, you will be a hero.
I did it using methyl ethyl ketone as the solvent. It's nasty stuff so do it outside. I used a glass syringe and blunt needle to get it directly on the glue. let it soak in and use the point of a knife to go under the edge of the glass and pry it up gently. It is possible...
Thanks Mule! I managed one.. The second failed and luckiky only one glass chip fell off which could be glued. I didn't want to take any more chances and cut the black units for the remainings. Ok some pic as promised. This is just to show the color of the epoxy lens and how it looks next to a new and old glass lens. Old glass colors up over years unfortunately. It is hard to see the color difference if you put it on the unit with the reflector under it. 1st photo: These are 2 glass lenses to show the color difference over year. Left 27 year old and on the right a new glass lens from a new unit. 2nd photo: Left epoxy lens. Right new glass lens. 3rd photo: Left epoxy lens. Right 27 year old glass lens. 4th photo: Euro on reflectors. Left 27 year old glass lens. Right Epoxy lens. (same set of lenses as 3rd photo) 5th photo: USA on reflectors. Left new glass lens. Right Epoxy lens. They look amazing! I haven't forgotten to look at mine and tell you the numbers but with this weather and the fact I can't start the engine without my expansion tank connected I haven't had a chance to push it out the garage. The hard part is pushing the car back in the garage due to a small step that avoids water getting in there. I will do it soon as I get the chance. Thanks.
No worries Peter, it's 1500 kilos that you need to push back in Hi Rob, both USA and Euro lenses in post 11 are epoxy
Guys, I got some PM requests if I made some extra. I have made 3 extra pairs and can still make if one needs one or two. Takes me 3 to 4 hours to make a lens with a high gloss UV protection lack layer. Like the glass ones it can have a small bubble of air here and there. From what I know the UK lens is the same as the USA one and these do not have a right or left direction like the headlights, Peter will send me some numbers still so we can check. This will fit on Mondial units from 86' up to '92. This will not fit on a 328 since that lens is more deep. A left or right USA lens: 110 Eur. That would be around 140 USD. (Shipping not included) - Left is 41768 (Passenger side) - Right is 41769 (Driver Side) A left or right Euro lens: 125 Eur. That would be around 160 USD. (Shipping not included) - Left is 41734 (Passenger side) - Right is 41733 (Driver Side)
On the left you see the epoxy lens and on the right a new glass lens Bottom picture when it is just ready Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Guys, the U.S. dollar got very strong against the Euro currency over the past months. So if you calculate it back it the U.S. They ones are now around 110 USD each. Obviously the shipping quote will be less as well.
