Can not find: Air box delete (the spare one off intake) delete F355

Looking for a while now, can not find on forums. What are ppl using on the aux box delete?

Once you remove the plastic box on the intake (side of intake), there is a nice 42mm hole. What are you guys using to cover it?

Obviously I could "make" something work, but being a Ferrari I'd like a nice piece, that I am sure someone out there has found?

perfect little mod. that box is absolutely useless.
I bought the cap from Ricambi.
engine bay looks a lot cleaner without the box too.

 

I would expect it to be, but have to ask, has anyone done a before/after dyno test?

It would be interesting but i would like to see it in a car that has stock everything. My guess is it makes more power or ferrari would not put it there. That being said going to diff headers, cats, or intake system probably have made it not work. If i ever dyno mine i will post.

 

that box has nothing to do with power.
it's purpose is to muffle sound.

 

Until proven that is only an assumption. You may well be correct but I prefer to have proof rather than just guess, especially when evidence exists to the contrary.

That's an interesting bit of reading. I was with Tony, I thought it was just there to tone down intake noise. That study puts a lot more perspective into how involved it can all be.

 

Just like tuned headers, hey? So what do you think about the resonators on the F12? Take them off and bolt flat plates on? Yes, perhaps it's only sound, but there are ramifications to removing unwanted frequencies of acoustic waves impacting the intake valves.

I'm struggling to believe that Ferrari spent hundreds of thousands of dollars designing these resonators simply to muffle a bit of intake noise on engines that are renowned for making a lot of noise (at least the old engines did! - The newer engines less so sadly!).

On a 355, are you really going to hear the intake noise over the rest of the engines glorious sound?

That just doesn't make much sense to Me!

I can understand them spending that sort of money though to design a part that is there to assist the intake manifold by modifying the air pressure waves entering the manifold in order to help gain performance - That would make sense.

The biggest concern is that people are looking to remove parts from their cars without fully knowing what that part actually does!

Some on here are convinced that the resonator is only there for sound and is basically useless, others are convinced that there's a lot more to it than that, and basically, no one knows for sure. Personally, I would want to know exactly what it does before removing it!

Ferrari went to the trouble of designing these resonators for a reason (they may make very little difference to the car in reality, but they are still there for a reason), and as I say, I'm struggling to believe they were that concerned about a bit of additional intake noise, after all, it's a Ferrari not a Rolls Royce!

also the delete cap offered by Ricambi is produced by Gothspeed.. as we all know he is a fanatic with the 355 and has produced many improvements for our car.. so im certain he would not have made the delete cap if it had any negative impact..

 

It's not just reducing noise...it's reducing unwanted noise at annoying frequencies. I made a carbon fiber plug for mine, drove for a year with it off...couldn't stand the drone / resonating. It's back on now...I felt taking it off actually took away from more desirable engine noise.

 

With my Tubi headers and exhaust, I couldnt tell any difference in the sound with or without the airbox.

When the Lexus brand came out we put harmonic resonators on anything that moved air. We even had dynamic dampeners in the bumpers, motor mounts and on larger spans of sheet metal to quiet things down. We did not get any performance gains. What we did find was the longer paths the air had to take slowed things down a bit.

I love it when we start talking about Heimholz resonation. It's great party talk. And, it makes us sound so smart. My car gets faster when I even think about it. And, since I'm such a great driver, it's the only thing left for me to tune, as everything else has already been perfected. I miss the way Schumacher used to call me for advice on his. My pit crew is in fact in awe of my understanding of it. They listen intently as I emphasize its importance. It makes me sexy too. Girls get wet when I exhibit my understanding of it. Oh thank heavens for this information. When I'm racing through the trees on the twisty roads, there's no better feeling than knowing my Heimholz is well-tuned. Oh, the ecstasy!

 

Hmm, all this time I've only known of Helmholtz. I will have to look up this Heimholz character.

 

Made my own, lathed a precise cap, same as you buy.
Took it off as others did, box back on. Been told you will actually lose minute HP.
I never noticed a difference either way, but prefer to keep car stock as possible.
