in this week's NYT magazine there is a small advert offering a Ferrari dealership for sale, it has a 917- number

any guesses ? Wide world of Cars? getting out at top before IPO devalues brand ?

I highly doubt it is WWoC. If I recall there was a thread a few months back somewhere else on this site about a dealer for sale. I bet it is the same one. I think at the time the speculation was that it was MAG, but I have no actual knowledge. Also, just because of the 917 number does not mean that the dealer is actually located in the NYC area.

The writing is on the wall. Millennials are just not that into cars like previous generations of young folks.
The Green movement, and Society has shifted.
    A&P is gone ... Harley-Davidson is floundering .... It's a new world.

There is more younger money today.

    Disagree with your statement.

The green movement supporters are buying hybrids, not Ferraris.

Maybe they will buy these...afterall, Henry Ford's wife owned an electric car. She didn't like "those exploding engines."

I think it's total BS. I signed the NDA, send a copy of my license AND proof of funds - nothing. The phone number never gets answered by a human - the email isn't being responded to beyond 'fill out the NDA with a copy of your license...". I'd love for someone to reach out to me.

This kind of thinking surfaces every generation. I remember thinking no one would ever want to restore a mid 70s American car because they were such limp examples of automotive history. Well while no one is knocking down any doors to buy up '73 Buick LeSabres you do see restored examples on cruise nights and in cars and coffee events. It takes all kinds, and as long as the industry keeps up with the evolution of environmentally responsible vehicles there will be an interest in the hobby that grows along with wealth and the population. HD is not a good example of a company that moves with the times. They are stuck in 1953.

Something not adding up...ads aren't cheap to run in the WSJ just as a goof. Is there any scam someone could get away with having your signature, drivers license and proof of our funds available?

It doesn't seem the proper way to sell a car dealership, let alone a Ferrari dealership...

Same for A&P- it isn't a good example either. A&P was a union issue (most everyone was in a union and the demands/cost of that put them under). It's like when hostess filed bankruptcy (maker of wonder bread). To put it simply, I wonder who would be willing to pay an extra say $1 for wonder bread vs. another similar bread just because Wonder bread had a separate person to drive the truck to the store, and a separate person to meet the driver of the truck to unload the truck because of negotiated union contracts. Times are tough- most wouldn't want to pay extra and didn't.

I suppose it is possible to attempt to drain a bank account with the information above - who knows. I simply find it hard to believe that if it was legit nobody would respond.

One of the stranger things I've seen (from selling a dealer in that fashion to the non-responsiveness). If they call and you do end up purchasing the dealership, do you plan on giving a generous f-chat discount for us? :)

Where I live they tried to compete with Whole Foods somewhat. We really miss the A&P/ Pathmark as the replacement ACME is awful so far. It wasn't terrific but now it's much worse.
Walmart is our other option ...

So, what was the excuse for the collapse of Pan Am ? Certainly not unions.
Poor decisions and changing times. (then, Lockerbie was tragic icing on their wings.)
