930 Turbo Carrera

The dark brown is a great color. Your back seat looks way better than mine. My carpet is old and somewhat yellow. I wonder if I could pull it out and clean it so it looks like yours or if I need to source some new carpet some day. Its not high on my list of things to do right now. I am enjoying driving the car.

 

Saw this photo in an old post on Pelican on RSR Fuchs. At first glance it appears to be a 1975 Turbo but Ryan’s new Carrera 2.7 book has a detailed section on this car and it is a 1975 Carrera with Turbo flares ordered by the Porsche factory sales department. It was factory equipped with wider Fuchs than '75 Turbos - 15 x 9 rears and 15 x 8 fronts; same as the '74 RS 3.0's.

Sorry, but thats crap.
Of course the modern market is influenced by vintage cars, and vice versa. marketing and emotions is why. Thats why Porsche is selling cars so successfully: Because they have a heritage like the 930 or the RSR and others, and here is where the first turbo plays in. Porsche can and most likely will market that through the early 930. Hence more people buy Porsches, making the rarer ones more desirable and increasing the emotional values of the newer ones.

And same is true in the sneaker market by the way, as you brought it up here: Heritage, like Jordan 1 or Armani Jordans unworn from the first release are worth stupid money, and Nike builds on that heritage to sell its new ones.

 

My copy of Ryan's Carrera 2.7 book arrived yesterday. It is phenomenal, really a spectacular work comparable to The Dino Compendium and Konradsheim's 2.7 RS--in some ways it surpasses them. The research, attention to detail and production quality set new standards. There is a lot of material relevant to 3.0 Turbo's and all mid-70's 911's. If you are a 911 enthusiast just buy it, it will quickly become part of the Porsche canon. Sorry for the crummy photos.

+1…and the technical details applicable to 3-liter Turbos is outstanding. As I mentioned before, I was able to determine the date for my ’75 Turbo VDM steering wheel using Ryan’s book (14th week of 1975). For 3-liter turbos, just the full exterior colors, interior colors & fabrics photos (from the factory books/manuals) is worth the price of admission.

Unfortunately I am not aware of a source for the deep pile carpets used in any of the early 930's or a brown that matches the lovely dark brown used in my 77.

Happy new years everyone, this thread has kept me stick to the 3.0 world for a long time, and I am hugely thankful for all the people adding knowledge here.

To a great 2016 for this thread and the 3.0's we all cherish..

 

Like Simon said, Happy New Years and thank you to all those who keep this thread lively, informative, and entertaining. My Turbo Carrera is snug for the winter at the moment (although we have no snow), but I will continue to enjoy her by following this thread until spring.

Of all 930 3.0 cars... what percentage came with a sunroof?

If someone knew the breakdown specifically for 1976 row cars that would be swell too.

This question does come up from time to time, I've never seen a definitive answer. Qualitatively most US spec cars came w/ S/R - Many ROW cars did not. You can scan through the turbo 3.0 registry and get a better idea.

It amazes me how much larger today's sports cars are over their predecessors. Too large for my taste.

 

it is possible to downsize, start with 5.5 in wheels, take away the space needed for things like a/c, intercoolers, fender flares etc, should get the cars back to original dimensions

it seems a bit off... bit to high.. nose is way to high .. the hips are not as big as they used to be.. luckely why all buy the old turbo's instead of the new
