I am about to change up my cars (Panamera Turbo S-daily driver and Aston Martan Vantage V12S-fun car ) to get a FF as my 'fun' car and not sure whether to get a Range Rover Sport or get another Cayenne turbo (I have had 4). I live in Michigan and don't think I could drive the FF daily or would want to. So what makes more sense CTT or RR Sport? Thank you in advance for any input on this. This should be the toughest decision anyone ever has to make I know (lol).

I HV the 3 cars : FF , RR SVR and my wife is using the Cayyene ..... FF is a great car u can even use it as a DD around the year, still if u want to hv an SUV then for sure any of the two RRS or the CT will be great .... From my experience the SVR is amazing, excellent power, noise , acceleration....etc. the CT maybe more smoother but I prefer the SVR.... But if u are comparing the RRS (not the SVR) w the CT then maybe better to hv the CT.... Give the SVR a try and see how it feels

u can certainly drive the FF though the winter with no issues....id get a 458 for your fun car...if you want a 12 get an f12...only get the ff if u plan on using it in the snow or if u need the backseats. FF with snows will be fine - checkout the winter/dirty threads.

Range rover svr is the best option. I just purchased one - put about 500 miles so far. It does everything well. Go check one out.

I have an F12 & compliment it with a Cayenne Turbo. I'm on my 6th. Cayenne Turbo since they were introduced. I varied from the Cayenne once and bought a RR Sport Supercharged. Kept it a little less than a year and went back to the Cayenne. I really disliked the steering in the RR. To be fair it was 7+ years ago & have not driven a RR since. My wife also has a 997 Turbo S Cab & also compliments it with a Cayenne Turbo. She also did not like the steering in the RR.

    Same Dilemma,
Our X5 died on the way to the alps 2 weeks ago (130,000miles on the clock)
I am torn between Range Rover SVR or Cayenne Turbo to replace it.
I use my FF as a DD but use a 4x4 as our long haul family car.
Would be grateful for opinions on the best X5 replacement.
    Happy new year btw-cheers,Bob
ps 'George' you are going to love the FF :0)

5 in our family , but the eldest drives (18th birthday tomorrow -eek) and my 2nd will drive a year from now - our little one is 6
We rarely have 5 in a car in any given time.
The X5 that died , we bought 6 years ago and it has/had 7 seats - Due to the children getting older we don't feel the need for the 3rd row now.

I would go SVR over Porsche. My friend has one and its a weapon. My RRS will be changed this year and I am considering one. Keeping my Vantage V12 S for this summer and may change to an F12 end of 16 / early 17. Only ever drove V8 Ferraris, how does a F12/FF go vs a Vantage V12 S?

I too have had several Cayenne Turbos. My gf and I now have a Macan Turbo (love how nimble it is compared to the Cayenne - if you've never driven one do yourself a favor - it does EVERYTHING exceptionally well) and then added this last month...

As for a larger one, we looked hard at the RR and then on a whim drove the X5M and whoa baby!!! It blows away the RR, Cayenne Turbo and all the rest. Much more sport (not quite as soft) but holy s*** it is effing fast for something that large. It is so raw, yet refined. Still has that edge to it. I was blown away, this coming from a guy who has had ten BMWs in the last decade. It's so much fun to drive, and with the extended leather package, the fit and finish is amazing. And it was the same price ($100k loaded) as a RR diesel or RR sport V8 or Cayenne GTS. Seriously you HAVE to drive it before you decide. We special ordered ours (built in Spartanburg) and went from custom order to delivery in under three weeks!!!

I've owned and/or driven all of the above vehicles. My take is for the best luxury, and for true off road capability the RR Autobiography SVR and RR V8 SC is truly the best. The cayenne is definitely the best sports car of the group, and is also the most nimble. The touchscreen and gadgets on both the cayenne and M5 are better, but the RR 1700 watt meridian stereo blows them both away with sound quality. The RR has the absolute best seats for comfort, and the massage option is actually quite good for massage feel.
Driving wise the torque on the RR SC V8 is an absolute beast, and you can literally spin all 4 tires when shifting in dynamic mode. The draw back with SC is that the torque comes on low in the rev range, and the horse power starts to fall off at the upper rev limits. You have much better upper rpm power in both the cayenne and XM5, but in a heavy sport utility vehicle; I find the torque on the supercharger feels far more rewarding.
Based on looks and inside usable space, I find the RR Sport top of the list; but looks are strictly subjective.
The SVR feels absolutely menacing, and I don't think that either the cayenne or the XM5 provide the same feeling. The feeling is more akin to driving a Dodge Viper; like you're being pushed by a freight train.
I chose the RR V8 SC autobiography primarily for the combination of luxury and true off road capability, since where I live the drive can sometimes be quite adventurous. Luxury wise, I don't think there are too many manufacturers that can compete with the Brits (Rolls, Bentley, AM, etc.

X6M just saw off all comers in a recent Motor Trend article. Seems like a fun fast truck if you're into that sort of thing.

Interesting, I had a 15 AM V12 VS as my daily for just over a year and switched it for a RR SVR as my current daily. I got killed on the sale of my V12 VS - one thing I absolutely hate about Aston. I will say that the SVR provides 9/10 fun if the V12 VS is considered 10/10. More importantly, the SVR is much, much more functional - throwing golf clubs in the back, picking up my kids, etc. So the SVR set the record for an SUV at the Nurburgring with an 8:14. A few months later the CTS beat it with a 7:59. So yes the CTS is faster but I feel the SVR is more unique. It handles ok for an SUV, the Cayenne handles tighter. But the exhaust on the SVR is truly intoxicating - has the growl of the V8 F type jag.
I have 4 kids (3 in car seats) so I'm experimenting with different car seats for the back. Oh, the race seats in the SVR are super comfortable even for long trips. We do have an LX570 for family trips. Wife also has a G63 AMG so we like variety in SUVs.
    Best of luck!

Thanks for all the input. It seems like I may have to try and get my hands on another SVR to test out. I took a limited test drive in one and I thought it was nice but I wasn't sure if it was that much better then the RR Autobiography so I thought I would save the $20k difference.

I have an FF (2013) and a Cayenne Turbo (2016). Very happy! I recommend the CT with the new Sports Exhaust, amazing, makes it a really fun ride. CT is our weekend family ride and the FF is my daily work car. I will admit that on the really really bad winter days I get a cab to the office, I am too worried someone else will hit me and less about the weather - FF can handle pretty much anything we have thrown at it.

We're on our second FF and love it; we (usually my wife) uses it as much as practical.

During this time, we've been in (and out) of a RR HSE, and I've owned 2 X5M's. We now have a 2016 Cayenne Turbo S.

RR's are very nice, X5M's were monsters - but the RR wasn't too much fun to drive on our local backroads; as a cruiser or grocery getter is was fine. The X5M's I loved, but that twin-turbo engine won't last....turbos, injectors, cooling system seemed to all start going out around 40K+ miles, on both of mine and 2 of my friends with the same engine (X6M, M5)...

The newest gen X5M we'll see. It's a nice vehicle, but to us back-to-back, the Cayenne TTS with the multiple torque vectoring, chassis controls, et al is a much better handling vehicle, the brakes are astonishing for an SUV and it "fits" better; it's less of a truck than the new X5M in our opinion. To us, the letdown in the Cayenne is the gearbox, but it's as good (or bad) as the X5, RR, et al. The SVR is really nice, love the concept, but again, it has a truck-like handling quality (but, is a very nimble truck).

X5M vs. Cayenne TTS vs. RR SVR....probably a matter of what feels best. Only concerns I'd have are the BMW durability (if it's a keeper) and RR build quality and chassis dynamics.

we are a family of 4, kids are 12 and 13, but we usually seem to have a another kid with us. Around town, it works....for longer trips, quite frankly with +3 in the back, we'd opt for another Yukon XL. My wife's old X5 had a third row, it was good for...around town only.

I've driven all of them, and if you haven't driven the newest X5M, it's a different comparison. The seats have a split articulation and fit like a glove. The B&O sound system is top notch, and it was hands down faster than my Cayenne Turbo (current gen). 0-60 in 3.8 is quicker than any of the above. The Range was nice, but for $40k more, its an equal to lesser vehicle (at least while under warranty). I don't keep mine long so I can't speak to reliability. That "feeling" you describe - is there in the new X5M. It is not there IMO with the others. This thing is just plain mean, yet still can be refined.

unfortunately no. you can get the xDrive50i V8 turbo or the diesel with a 3rd row but the X5M has some suspension components or something that prevents ordering it with it :( I tried to special order it as I wanted to see what I would have to give up, but it was M stuff that can't be taken off :(
