Best GoPro positions for track day

I placed 1 on the middle front part of the roof. Gives a very balanced view of the racing line.

 

One thing to consider, more and more tracks and/or organizing bodies are requiring external cameras to be hard-mounted (i.e. screwed on, bolted in, clamped on) or, if you're using a suction cup or adhesive-based mount, then it needs to be "wired" to the car (i.e. a tether, so if it comes loose, it somewhat stays connected to the car).

As someone who has been hit by flying GoPros, and has a daughter who races karts that has been hit by a flying GoPro, I tend to agree with the rule.

In any case, if that rule is in place, it does limit your creativity with placement, or at least makes it more complex...

how I've seen them mounted, am sure there are more...

1) interior, between seats facing forward
2) interior, below rear view mirror
3) inside engine bay, mounted to bulkhead window (i.e. rear/engine shot)
4) rear bumper near plate (exhaust view, or low rear) - wire inside engine bay
5) on rear quarter window, facing forward or aft (shoulder view) -wire to air intake or interior
6) driver door facing forward/aft (low side view) - wire inside door or around mirror
7) low center front hood (wire under bonnet)
8) low front radiator opening (wire into radiator grille)
9) center top of roof (forward or aft facing), run wire to interior both ways

if you are not required to tether the camera, I'd still consider it (so you don't lose one), and consider how you'd feel if your 458 took a rock-solid GoPro case into the bumper/bonnet at 100mph because someone didn't tether theirs.

What about using the front and rear tow hook mounts - a few companies do GoPro mounts for those.
