It is correct that you can't plug anything in the Brico lighted.
In my 308 I had another connection on the left of the steeringwheel at the underside of the dashboard. It is a different kind of connection, but a BMW motorcycle dealer can sell it to you. It is the same plug as they use for the suitheating.

The receptacle under the dash is for the emergency light.

Sorry, but the "mid one" is IMO not original.

The first one was the BRICO, but without (!!!) the "BRICO" writing on the top. This Version (with "BRICO" writing) was the Alfa Romeo type, not the Ferrari type.

The last one is the Version from 1981 on (approx. Start of production 2V injection) until the end of QV production and beyond.

btw. I have one original BRICO (without writing) to sell. Details per PM

EDIT: Maybe there are different lighters for US ? Sorry, but my posting claims to be about EU cars.

the second is Fiat Uno lighter, very close to the very last carbed cars (late 1980 or even early 1981 like my one) and 2V injected cars, but different.

Until the mid 1980 (at least) they had the Brico lighter.

No, the middle pic is the same and correct as the lighter in my 1981 (NOV '80 Build Date) 2V North American 308GTSi.

Interesting, but (as said before) obviously because of US spec.

No doubt - I could be wrong, but I do not know any EU spec 308 with the "middle type" equipped ORIGINALLY.

    Marcus,

I've seen several in the flesh and in photos of the same middle lighter I have.

Could be one of those, "Hmmmmmmm?" differences between European and NA/USA and ? models that seem to have no real rhyme or reason.

Any of you wanting to replace your lighter due to the icon being worn, be careful. Squirrel or the other manufacturers(?) made various versions of the lighters with slight but noticeable differences.

The average Joe off the street probably couldn't tell but a Concours judge sure can. From a mile away.

My October 1979 built EU Carbed Dry Sump GTB had the middle one fitted when I bought it 8 years ago and I have no reason to assume it is not original - I have now swapped it for a BRICO one (because someone gave me it)

    Any new suggestions ?

Alberto says, until middle of 1980 there have been the brico lighters.
I know definitely, that from middle of 1982 on there have been the last type.

Others say, that cars from the end of 1979 on have the middle type.
My EU 308 GT4 (produced November 1979) should have the middle one or the first (BRICO) one ?

    Who knows for sure ?
Spareparts catalogue (EU 1979) says: part # 60603000 (BRICO) has been superceeded by 50065606 (middle style).
Parts dealers tell me: #50065606 (middle style) has been superceeded by #70000627 (late one, also fits Testarossa etc)

Question is now: From what date on the EU spec cars have been fitted with the middle one ?

I've seen a few Euro cars with the middle version in the UK and my own Italian delivered Euro 84 QV has one and as the car is very original I have no reason to doubt it's not original. I think Ferrari probably just fitted the version they happened to have available. No real rhyme or reason.

When the first model (Brico) failed, if was often replaced with the newer and cheaper FIAT UNO lighter. That's the reason why many carbed 308 now have the later model. Just the last produced carbed cars have the second one from factory, that is the 2v i standard lighter, as thety were assembled together with the 2Vi cars.

I have the third one on all my three 208 turbo, all 1983

    ciao
