No the hood is not longer (I mean - think of the engineering that would go behind such a statement, it would mean everything would be different, fenders, chassis length possibly, place of radiator etc). It has the same basic shape. The only thing I can think of is that the air intake might have changed a little, but I've never noticed any differences.

    Here is a visual comparison.

    456 Owners Caution.

The equivalent alternator to the stock Ferrari... NiponDenso listed as for a "John Deere Marine Engine" is not a total Plug and Play replacement...some modification was required.

1)The small alternator mounting flange is threaded, and the hole not large enough to accommodate the tension pin, that rides in the curved slot, and needed to be drilled out.
    2) The pulley installed on the alternator is slightly wider in diameter and width. Not an apparent issue. The grooves of the drive pulley and A/C compressor pulley guide the belt in the exact center of the alternator pulley, with a slight gap on either side.

Installed the unit last night with the minor drill out modification and all worked well.
A big savings over Ferrari ($840.00 vs $113 delivered brand new)

    Dennis

Hello, my 456GT (EU version) is factory equipped with (German) ATE (Teves) brake system, for this system I am looking a complete set of brake pads for the front (incl. indicators). As the Ferrari prices are over the top, I am looking for an alternative. I am based in Europe.

    Many thanks!

The power steering reservoir (Ferrari 170877) is a standard ZF part, used on many cars including BMW. Ferrari is ~$100, BMW is ~$30. This is for a genuine ZF part. BMW part number 32416851218. The reservoir has a non-replaceable filter in it so you don't want a used one.

The moulded electrical connection is different, but it's just two spade connections.

Has anyone come up with a substitute or fix for the 550 airbag module? Thank you.

Somebody had an issue with the airbag module in a 456. Apparently nobody in the US will touch it, not even the manufacturer and folks listed a few places in Europe that would rebuild/repair them. I can't find that thread now.

At this time Ferrari is not offering a replacement and the manufacturer, TRW says there is no substitute.

Repair or rebuilding is not recognized as a correct repair so there would be real liability issues for anyone taking that approach.

While sorting my various issues discovered the following.
Headlights for 456 GT very nearly the same, but interchangable with those fitted to Volvo FL4, FL6, FLC, Volvo- Plaxton coach and Marshall Dustcart.
All have the same Hella base unit, fixings etc.
The truck versions have a parking light installed which is not fitted to the F variety, but the big difference is that the F kind have a tiny little horse moulded into the corner of the lens. This results in a cost differential of over £400. Of course if a little horse logo that you can't see matters that much to you .........
I acquired a pair of beautiful replacements from my local truck breakers for £35 ea (inc VaT)
The added bonus of these lights is that they can be easily converted from left to right traffic by simply removing the dip beam assembly and rotating it to its alternative position.
Check out Hella 1DL 005 600 09. This is the left light unit I think the right one ends 08.

Graeme- If you want silver, it is Argento Metalizzato, PPG 36520. The gray wheels appear to be Grigio Silverstone.

Thanks Terry, Yes it's silver I am not sure where I got the colour reference I posted, I googled it an searched Fchat hence the question.
I have two wheels with gutter rash and want to get that sorted at the same time as new rubber.
