Noticed past couple of days a slight smell of fuel when the engine is at high revs. Can't smell it at idle or at revs less than 6K ish.

No CEL showing and car has half a tank of fuel so it's not over filled or anything like that.

    Anyone any ideas?

    Thanks

Justin...a fuel smell is something that needs attention (now). First place I would look into
are the two fuel pumps. From my experience.

Is it at any time, or soon after a fill up?

I last filled up probably a week ago but it's only been happening over the past couple of days.

+1 almost always the crappy plastic top on the fuel pump assembly- use search- you will find a bunch of DIY with pictures in the event u wish to do it yourself. Easy job but takes some time. Those plastic tops on the pumps have 7-10 year lifespan before they get brittle and leak if they break u'll wish you had a large fire extinguisher. Don't run your car until you've inspected them.

I had an off and on gas smell, turned out to be the gasket under one of the evap hoses at the top of the tank. I replaced all 4 and no smell.

if I were you , I won't drive it until I found the fuel leak somewhere. It gotta be somewhere unless your senses are cheating

I agree with the fuel pumps. Mine did the same exact thing. Replaced both.

Not sure pumps would give the smell only at high revs. Mine smelled as soon as the fuel system charged.

can you get just the plastic screw on tops? If not it would be a good project for someone as I would replace mine just for maintenance.

I have the same issue. Only happens when the tank is newly filled up to halfway used.

It smells on high revs but when the tank is less than half you don't smell anything.

    Ideas?

Have a smoke test done. That will establish where any leaks are.

Looks like they have found this issue. It's this filter in the picture here. I think it's called a fuel vapour separator....will get full details next week when they get the new filters and replace them.

Jumping in a bit late, but better than never.
ALWAYS address these issues immediately. Last time I was in a car with a bit of a gasoline smell at high revs this horry story happened to my friend's E30 Convertible:

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YLZ2mINwmRQ]BMW 325 E30 on Fire - YouTube[/ame]

One of the fuel lines was loosened during the last inspection. After a "spirited" morning carpool drive to work, some fuel dripped on the hot exhaust headers and the hood padding/insulation caught on fire. No one carries a fire extinguisher here in the UK, and even though it took 7 mins for the fire truck to arrive, the car was totalled...
