1966 Lamborghini 350GT early production Coupe January 27th 31st, 2016 at Russo and Steeles 16th Annual Scottsdale Arizona Auction Consignment # 5199 The 350/400 GT Series represented Ferruccio Lamborghinis intention to construct the finest Grand Touring automobiles ever assembled. Many automotive journalists at the time hailed the cars as being better than equivalent exotic machinery. During its introductory year, only thirteen examples of the 350 GT version were created. Around 120 examples were created in total and all were mostly hand-built. Of these rare cars, very few survivors remain in the same condition as Chassis 148, the car on offer here. Finished in a lustrous black over tan leather hides and riding on Borrani knockoff wire wheels, this remarkable early Lamborghini was restored comprehensively inside and out. From its trademark oval Cibie headlamps to the early 3.5-liter Bizzarrini-designed V-12 engine, no detail or element was overlooked in bringing this exquisite car back to the standards to which it was originally built. An active invited participant in the highly demanding Concours dElegance circuit, this outstanding early production 350 GT has received multiple best in class awards indicative of it stunning quality of workmanship, attention to detail, and dramatic presentation. A comprehensive restoration portfolio details the work performed and confirms that only the very best materials and craftsmanship were used. Mechanicals attended to by noted authority Mr. Bob Wallace, brightwork by Christensen Plating and interior by Dubuque Trim no detail was left unattended. The early production nature of this feature car has many unique features. Although the serial numbers of the first cars were not in consecutive order and no records have been discovered that divulge the actual build sequence several components clearly indicate this is one of the very first produced. Most notably, the unique early production feature of the engine-turned machined steering wheel and dash surround. Unlike the later production 400s, the early 350GTs featured all-alloy coachwork by Touring employing their unique patented Superleggera build process. Many features of the 350GT were state of the art, and remain avant-garde even by todays standards. For example, every piece of glass on the car has compound curves. From tiny, almost invisible A-pillars, to the simplistic rear-view mirror, the lines of the bodywork continually transform into different sensuous shapes each time the car is viewed from various angles. The objective to create the ultimate touring car, for exclusivity, speed, comfort, and ultimate enjoyment of the driver and fortunate occupant were dramatically achieved in what is now heralded as one of automotive design and engineerings greatest achievements. The Lamborghini Diablo was to enjoy great success, its production was over 2,000 models, but the roadster remained more confidential: its production is estimated to be about 300 models. The exact number is not known, as the archives of this period were not completely conserved. The car we are offering is not just one of these rare Convertible / Roadster VTs (with four wheel drive) but also one of the "Purple 30th Anniversary" models with their special detailing.This car was sold new in Monaco on 22nd March 1999. It has been regularly maintained since new by P3 Automobiles in Cannes. The present owner, a sports car enthusiast, bought it in early 2014. Just before the sale, the Diablo was given a 24,000 km service (the speedometer reading 25,412 km), and the sports exhaust system was replaced by the original equipment exhaust. It's just a standard Roadster painted in 30th purple. That is where the connection to the 30th Ann cars ends. And those 30th seatbelt protectors are Chinese items from ebay. It's also missing two of the luggage pieces. It has Murcie wheels.
A few incorrect details on that SV. It's had paint as the base of the side mirrors are painted instead of factory black. The carbon effect on the wing is not factory. The fuel cap is supposed to be silver/grey not black Aftermarket foglamps in the center of the front bumper.

Frankly I haven't checked, but, I do recall when I saw it @ both Castle Combe & Goodwood in the mid-80s, the gold was a respray as it was peeling badly all over the car. Here it is in its later dark blue phase, which I also saw it in, I preferred this. I'm not sure either color was a Lamborghini color. Image Unavailable, Please Login
