I finally got the nerve up to do a rear tail light conversion on my car. Personally, I have always prefered the looks of the 348 over an F355, but couldn't get past the hiddeous rectangle tail lights in the rear.

The tail piece arrived in a high gloss carbon fiber finish, however after seeing it on the car, the CF looked to "rice" to me. I am going to take it down and have it sprayed body color, along with the lower trim portion on the car.

I took a couple of quick pics, so bare with me on the quality of the photos. I will take some more pics once I get it painted.

Wow, I think that looks great - More photos from different angles please!!!

I don't think it looks rice.

Where did you buy this & what was the price?

    Thanks!

You know, that looks much better than I expected! The taillight panel has always been the biggest thing keeping me from considering a 348, and most conversions I have seen don't look that great in my opinion, but this one looks quite nice!

Having worked extensively with carbon fiber (I built an airplane out of the stuff), I can tell you that spraying paint without the texture showing will take some effort and copious amounts of primer. I guess that is assuming that your panel is real carbon fiber.

I'm with Slag... post where you got it and how much, if you don't mind. I'm sure other 348 owners would be interested. I am more interested just out of curiosity.

    Nice find!

Hey Slag - take that back!

Actually, that looks pretty darn good to me... I'm quite impressed!
It makes his car look a little "wider" - like it's not already phat enough :)
I wonder how that would look on my red car if left black?

What might be even better is a challege grill !!!!!

    Nice!

I'd leave it in CF, does'nt look "ricer" to me either.

hehe, sorry - I do like the speciale also though. :) Heck, I like em all!

A challenge grill with 355 lights would look good also, me thinks. :)

Thanks for the comments. I purchased the conversion kit from Ray at www.garedcars.com

Very happy with the service (no affiliations, kick backs, yadda, yadda....)

The complete kit was $1,975 and included the tail light panel, (4) Ferrari factory tail lights, (2) wiring harnesses, and all mounting hardware.

I initially considered purchasing a stock F355 rear tail light panel and having it modded to fit the car. However, once you factor in $975 for the new factory tail lights, $500 for a used rear panel, $100 for a pair of wiring harnesses, and who knows how much for the modification itself (not to mention the time it would take to make it all fit right), it was just easier to buy the conversion kit.

I like what you've done. If one thing that I can fault the 348 is the tail lights.

Nice job. Interesting to know that their are "kits" out there. Didn't think it would be economical enough to make a "run" of them, since I thought not too many people actually ended up making the conversion. Your gain! Did you look long and hard?!

I almost think the conversion looks better on his car because it is black...
You really don't see the "lines" as well...does that make sense?

I like it. I'd leave it carbon fiber. When I want something for my car, I don't care at all if people consider it too "ricer" or anything else. If I like it, "'nuf said".
The car looks great. Post some high res photos in good light, if you could so we can have a close look at it.

Man both of those cars look so awesome (but the wing on the red one is a bit much) the black one is a lot nicer looing than a regular 348. It even looks nicer than a 355 IMO because it isnt bothered by the non body-color strip of the 355 above the lights. Good job!

The original tail light looks just about right on the 348.

    I prefer the original
