    I am thinking of buying a 1998 F355 from/in Canada. First, how big of a problem is getting it into the States? Second, how difficult is changing the speedo to mph unit? Anything else I will have to do? Thanks, Brian

    It's easy to swap it out. Problem is getting the mileage to match up.

    You need to get a compliance letter from FNA, I believe they are charging for this now.

    A speedometer shop could set a mph speedo to the correct mileage before installation but will probably still raise some questions if you ever intend to sell in the future.

    I left my car unchanged with it's original metric speedometer.

    Yeah, I'd keep the speedo metric as original. Getting the compliance letter is key if the car is under 25 years old, as your 99 would certainly be.

    Also, if the car has never been in the USA before, import duties should be 2.5%......

    From the little research I did on a couple cars I was interested in for sale in canada a lot depends on which original market the car was built for. Fees and paperwork and the need or not for an importer vary.

    IMHO I'd keep the speedo OEM. Vast majority of ferrari buyers (possibly your future buyers) can/do have issues with anything "mileage" related. A speedo swap casts (unfounded) doubts into the mind of buyers even with proper paperwork and can be an issue at resale.

    What would honestly be your motivation for swapping it out? 100KPH is 60mph, knowing your basic speeds like 35, 55, and 75 can really be that hard

    you are right, I don't really want to change it but thought I might have to. I guess I should concentrate on what it takes to get it into States and what it will cost... Thanks

    Not sure if its the same for the states but Uk speedos show mph and kph on the dial and I believe replacement faces are available, so you could use one of these faces but retain the kph rolling numbers, best of both worlds.

    The only problem with changing the gauge face is it will now look like a MPH speedo but odometer will still be in KM. Still tough to explain if you want to sell it later but I guess you could just swap the original metric gauge face back on and everything is original.

    The one I listed shows both mph and kph and at least the service records will still correlate, easy enough to explain that the distance covered is in kilometres whilst still being able to keep to the mph limits and avoid those speeding tickets :)
