Looking at purchasing a low mile 2011 Italia through a F dealer. No service records and two owners. Car is nicely optioned and less than 3000 miles. I'm assuming no service on a 5 year old car. Yes I will factor this into the price. I'm considering the extended warranty. I don't know the price for the warranty though. I will find out tomorrow. Yes I will get a PPI.

I was under impression that extended warranties were not worth the money. That was the consensus when I bought my 430 6 years ago. BUT it had a year of factory warranty left.

So what is the consensus now on the extended warranty?

Mine came with extended warranty purchased by original buyer. It's one of the reasons why I purchased it. I like the piece of mind.

I think for an 2010 or 2011 a ferrari warranty could give you piece of mind. Weren't there some gearbox issues on the earlier 458's? I believe the 1 year warranty costs approximately $5k. Some Ferrari dealers include the warranty in their price while others say the car is Ferrari CPO inspected which means the warranty is available but will cost extra.

Buy the warranty :) Especially on a car that you assume no service for 5 years. The stuff that breaks down is not the stuff they catch on a regular inspection or service. It's worth the piece of mind.

I purchased the extended warrantee on my 2012 because it was an extension of the original bumper to bumper. I sleep well at night and if I sell my car it is transferable which makes my car more attacive than one without. Ps. I had a bad experience with my 430 spider that only had 5000 miles. Cost me 14k. Fool me once shame on you ......

Bingo, I just added another 2 years to my FF and if I tell you the crazy winter driving story I had that punctured my radiator that they covered under warranty ($12k bill) then you will understand why I am glad I added. Not to mention the "better" service experience I get when combined with the 7 year plan already on the car :)

I have a 2011 with the extended Ferrari warranty. It extends year by year if I want to. I sleep better having it and driving care free. I will be extending it again in April. They quoted me around $3500 to extend it. Also, I plan to sell my 458 sometime this year and I figure it will be more attractive with the warranty

your car will have to pass a ferrari specific examination to qualify for the LIMITED extended warranty... this may be a problem as it is a very thorough test including engine compression and any problems will have to be repaired by Ferrari at your cost BEFORE the warranty can be issued

the LIMITED extended warranty is not bumper to bumper but does cover the major systems please read up on the exclusions so you are aware

ultimately I think it is a good buy so long as you pass the inspection test with minimal costs

The car has been regularly serviced. Found out this morning. Saw it on salesman's computer. I don't know why the mix up.

My 2013 Spider warranty runs out exactly today. I was on the fence on buying the warranty. I'm going to roll the dice and not buy the warranty. The car is rock solid so far!

My experience with warranties on all makes of cars is over 90% of the time it is used on minor cosmetic or basic mechanics stuff like door locks, etc. The extended warranty my 458 came with didn't cover that sort of stuff. So it is just expensive insurance for major power train issues which are quite rare. I prefer to self insure on risks that low.

I declined my dealer's offer to get an extended warranty on my F430 Spider after they did its first service under my ownership. The warranty on my 458 Spider expires in a little over two months from now. I will not opt for an extended warranty. While the possibility of a catastrophic failure always looms in the dark unknown, the cost of the warranty plus the extent of the usual exclusions are known, unchanging factors. I choose to self-insure as well. I believe that it has to be an individual choice, based on your degree of risk aversion. Fred

Of course Ferrari makes money on these warranties so by definition it is not "worth the money," on a statistical basis. But the value of peace of mind is not included and you have to evaluate that yourself. I just bought a 1-year "Power" warranty for my 2010 and can sleep at night now.

Can it be added a few years later after the original mfg. warranty has expired (gap in coverage) ?

My dealer does the regular annual on my 458 and this allowed them to waive the inspection fee.
