I have recently put a set of scuderia rampante silicon coolant hoses on my 355.

All is great except i have a very small drip from the hose that connects under the expansion tank and runs to the engine.

I have tightened the clip up tight but still drips....after a week or so there is dried coolant on the throttle linkage as this hose connects to the tank right above the throttle quadrant.

What position should the clip be placed.....right at the end of the hose itself or a few mm's down from the end and just how tight should i ratchet it down?

    Thanks for all help

I have the SRI hoses as well. Is that the larger hose form the bottom of the tank? That's the one that is a size too large and kinks when you put the tank in place, right??

Mine leaked and cranking on the clamp stopped it, for this summer.

I just checked it last weekend and the hose is completely folded over and kinked shut. I shall be replacing that shortly with something that is the proper size and able to hold the radius.

    Hi

It is hose part number 160416
From the bottom of the tank nearer the oil filter not the smaller diameter hose also on the bottom of the tank that is nearer the front of the tank.

When you say "a size too large" are you meaning diameter or length?

Take the hose back off and look inside it. I have seen some of those hoses split internally and no amount of tightening will stop it as it leaks through the circumference of the hose and drips out the end. This happened to me with the silly little S hose..

Will have to empty the expansion tank to take the hose off....or there's gonna be coolant pouring out ....
What is the best way to do that?

SCR hoses do not split. At least, that is what I am led to believe.

I'll take a photo of the affected part in my car tomorrow. Dinner plans tonight. But car stuff is the order of the day tomorrow.

    ID is too big.
A guy can cut a hose to length. This issue here is the hose SRI supplied does not bend, it kinks.

Interesting! I have SRI hoses on my 355. All ID sizes were correct. Hoses were longer than stock. If I installed without trimming to length they did kink. Found out the hard way!

Try a gates powergrip thermoplastic hose clamp. They adjust with temperature changes and maintain equal pressure that a screw clamp just can't provide. The smaller diameter the hose the bigger problem this is. Also cut off 1/2" of hose end before you replace the hose.

The SRI hoses are well made but difficult to install. Yes, they are longer than stock, stiffer and require clamps to be very tight. I've chased leaks several times with them.

I have run into that as well. What I do now is install the hoses, clamp them down, then recheck them 20 minutes later and retighten, they do loosen up a bit. All accessible hoses are re-tightened after warm up and again after road test. Seems a bit extreme, but I havnt had a leak with them after doing that.

What is the advantage of buying a more expensive hose, that is the wrong length and subject to leaking, in a motor that gets removed and polished every five years? What am i missing with real rubber hoses?

In all my years of cars I can hardly recall a hose failure in a hose that wasnt really old and well past its useful life expectancy.

Further, i have seen the metal pipe that comes off the tank crushed out of shape, also causing a leak.. The reality is,if you are sure that is the source of the leak and you are also sure the clamp is tight, the hose will need to come off and be checked inside and out plus the tank fittings. Use a large syringe to empty the tank. It will still kind of run everywhere when you take it off though. Keep us posted on what you find mate. Cheers!

and the reason why I cut off all hoses during an engine removal, and replace them all with rubber hoses from Kragen's. Easy, cheap, and complete.

The hardest part of an engine-out is dealing with hoses.

Well i tightened down the clamp with an 8mm (may have been 10mm..cant remember) socket real tight whilst engine warm
The hose is slightly bulging below the clamp...i read that this is good

Leak is much reduced...but still a couple wee drops sitting on the throttle quadrant...

What now?.... Tighten her up some more?

    shouldn't be leaking at all.
maybe you should try a different style of clamp.
