I am contemplating the purchase of a CTEK MUS 4.3 POLAR (Part Number 56-958) for my 07 F430. It is an 8 step Battery Charger, has anyone used it? Any comments will be appreciated.

I use it on mine with the dongle that plugs under the dash. Work great and I like having the "Supply" feature that provides a 13.7 V output.

Thanks for the reply KM1959, good to know that someone has used it and is happy with it.

    Al,

Mine has performed flawlessly for almost a year.

See "[430] battery tender question". There have been several threads on this issue.

I've used them all, including the Ctek. I've found even the $25 ones (Schumacher or Duracell) that you can find at Target or Walmart, all work fine. The factory Ctek one that came with my Scud is rather intermittent in operation. I retired it, and now using a Granite, as recommended by "Rifledriver"/Brian Crall. It works great. But so does my various ones from Griot's Garage, Battery Tender and all the others... ;)

The key feature is that it is microprocessor controlled. That ensures it does not overcharge or boil the electrolyte. More money gets you more features, and "steps" in the charging process....I have not (yet) found these features make a measurable difference in performance.

Scott, who sells those, is a great guy and local here in Seattle. But you can make your own for only a few dollars and 15 minutes of your time. I made my own in March of 2015 after I found this thread: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q-sponsored-algar-ferrari/347563-yabtp-making-battery-conditioner-connected-light.html Unfortunately you need to read this thread to the very end to get all the important details on which parts to order. I posted my experience in the process ;)

Wow, Warren the guy who started the thread on a DIY cable has now produced a terrific step-by-step DIY process on his website!!(just found it when I reviewed the thread again) It includes the links to all the parts you need.
    Just go here: https://www.kumari.net/index.php/cars/ferrari-battery-charger-cable/diy

But if you are not a DIYer or have the time, Scott's product is a great option.

Don't overspend. I agree with others the modest priced ones do just fine. Save the $ for something cool.[IMG]

Agree on above for the plug. If you are handy and have the tools, you can make your own adapter and save some money. I ordered the parts and followed the directions. You need a pin crimper for sure, I borrowed one from work.
Otherwise buy the one from Syncro or Warren

Thank you all for the input and help, I appreciate it. As a new Ferrari owner I find the forum to be so helpful and fun. I am not mechanically inclined so it is always good to read the different issues going on and how they are getting resolved. Truly, one gets the feeling of a community support.

Just had my OEM Ferrari tender die on me while I was away on a trip. (F430)

There must have been a bad batch of them... as I have read numerous other people on here have had their factory Ferrari tenders die. Mine was never used by the original owner. I pulled it out of the bag last year when I bought the car and got about 9 months of regular use out of it until it failed.

It was making a clicking sound and my wife unplugged it from the wall. When I got home the car was dead, I pulled the battery and it was reading 5.5 volts! Apparently when the factory tender fails it will drain the battery if left plugged into the car outlet.

I bought a CTEK 4.3 and am very pleased with it so far. It has been plugged in about 24 hours and brought the 5.5 volt battery back up to 12.5... It is still doing its thing on stage 3 now of the charge.

I plan on wiring up the cord to the battery terminals, will eventually order the parts to make the factory connection work with my new CTEK 4.3

I use Ctek in all my cars, work great.

The feature I like the best is that the charger indeed stops charging when the battery is full. (unlike Harbor Freight cheap chargers).
