I wasn't going to post up my exploits with the rear end restoration on my car but after hijacking a number of threads on here and the fact when I decided to do this, I couldn't find any exacting info on what to strip in order to get the engine out, I thought I'd do it.

One reason to help others if they are thinking of doing the same and secondly to ask for help along the way! :)

Anyway, started with stripping all the suspension out. Ive put it aside for a moment and will deal with that later on in the thread.

Took the exhaust components out, had a mare taking off the rear header as someone had heat wrapped the manifold and jubilee clips were preventing getting a spanner on the nuts. The front header was much easier but Ive left that in place until the engine is out.

I wanted to drop the oil pan before engine removal so had to remove the dipstick tube, top and bottom fixings and also the tube that goes down into the sump. Also had to remove the sensor on the side of the sump before the pan would drop. Released the throttle cable whilst back there and also the gear linkage.

I didn't want to release the AC system as it blows nice and cold so just put it to one side for the moment

I decided to take as much as I could from the top end of the engine to help with space when I eventually get the engine out, although I couldn't release the intake manifolds insitu, I'll wait until the engine is out for those. This is how it looks at present

Ok, so the engine has had to take a bit of a back seat as Im having to have a head puller plate fabricated courtesy of Scott's (smg2) drawing template.

So Ive been busy shot blasting and powder coating some suspension parts. Not bad for a DIY job! :)

Nice !!! I like the TLC given to these parts. Suspension and engine bay are important parts/places. Nothing like a car that is clean and shines, outside ánd inside !

Now you're talking! Is this something you felt was necessary or just doing it for grins? Either way...quite a project! Good for you!

I always do it with any car I get...As soon as the 348 was off the lift, the 308 was on! I'm sure there's a medical name for the condition :(

Andy - Im liking that wrinkle paint. Its probably more course than the original finish on mine (I should have said air filter housing) but I can think of other uses for it.

Heads off. Plate took some further fabrication due to the those spark plug extension tubes but Scotts template certainly gave me a decent head start. Anyway, no issues with the heads or liners by the looks of it, but I'll let the shop strip the heads and see what happens
