Wow.. I didn't know air shipping a car is $7500-ish... makes me wonder about bringing my car over in a container or on de-plane. Price beats renting a Ferrari in europe for the week...

Wait, for its one way.. :(

I think it's only around $1500 by boat. Takes a while though...

Whatever the costs may be to import this, I'm sure it would be no issues with someone who has the money to purchase this gorgeous F40.

Would like to see Romo pick this up as he's looking for one :)

Huge difference in the specs, better to just wait for exemption to enter the picture.

If it's 25 years old I htink you are "there".

Texas tax offices DO have an internet connection....they use NADA values, not the Bill of Sale..

    GLWS!

    That is a fine machine.

Actually they require bill of sale whether it is a private sale or a purchase from the dealer when you registered a car that you have purchased out of state. The sales tax is still 6.25% for Texas and this is based on the original bill of sale, at least in Harris County, although a friend of mine got away with paying much less sales tax for a 16M which was based on the NADA value and they used the NADA value of a regular 430 (however, this was done in Pearland). This despite the fact that he actually gave them the bill of sale from the out of state dealer where he purchased the 16m from.

Ferrari wasn't even in the computer in my local DMV... I'm sure you could put $400,000 for this car and they would be shocked it was so expensive.

except all that applies here is your "1500 for US transit", the 0.3464% is actually 0.035% (due to the Cap), and if importing for personal use, the customs bond isn't required. So on this transaction you're looking at $1500 + 2.66% to get the vehicle to your door, so at $1.3M this is about 2.78% not 6%.

I Also do not think the Seller suggested the shadiness you are all inferring, in Germany the sales tax (VAT) does not need to be paid on private sales, he is probably unfamiliar with the system in the US regarding used cars

I indeed am not familiar with the US taxing regulation. I was mainly refuring to one of the other posts. So sorry if it was taken in the wrong way, definately not my intention.

At the moment I have had some interest for the F40 but to be honest I am not looking for regular/overpriced part exchanges when this F40 is more then reasonably priced. If you have something to trade in please take in account the asking price for this exceptional F40 when pricing your own car. I also could have put it up at a higher more market conform pricing (as long as it is possible to get a correct "normall" pricing for this sort of car). When looking around this could be a $1.7m+ car easily when in the US.

I am a petrolhead and always looking around for something else and therefore I am open to different options if we talk about part exchange cars. However like informed in the original post I am actually looking for a 356 open modell or 911 (F modell) Targa S, but if an interesting car pops up and it works out also in my interest, I am open for it.

If you see this differently please let me know and also inform me on the why as this can start out to be an interesting debate :)

Excl. Buyers premium. And also on this you have your normall taxes.

But indeed this gives an indication of the marketvalue at the moment. Being just 1500mls above the one I offer.

In California you would get to pay sales tax on the value or sales price, if the claimed price is too low they will use value. Think about 9.25%. PLUS, they would require that the car be federalized and tested/certified because it is a gray market car. They do not wave smog nor permit registration just because it is 25 years old. THAT will cost a lot and may not even be possible.

That is something you know up front when selling over one of the Auctionhouses. You as seller
pay them and the buyer also pays them.

I choose to not use them exactly for this reason.

IMO, the hammer price is more indicative of the value, not the net price to the buyer and seller.

Air shipping is a variable number. I'm sure fuel is a part of it. I'm also pretty sure there are other factors I'm not aware of. I once paid a combined $10k to ship to and from Europe. I paid $6500 to ship my 458 from Ferrari. So I think your likely range is 5-15k just depending.

Looks like a really nice car. GLWS.

Not necessarily. While the buyers premium is pretty set in stone, the sellers concession is a negotiation. Competing auction houses will lower their stated concession in order to secure a deal. If they had an f40 already for example, they may be less willing to adjust their price.

Personally, I wouldn't accept a selling concession that high given that it seems that selling an exotic is like shooting fish in a barrel 😐 You can drive a 458 through that spread, literally.

GL to seller. Seems like a great car.

In the end you have to check the total the buyer paid this is 1.534, so this is the car price.

If you are out to buy a car and you know of additional costs to be added to the car price, you will always tend to pay less for the car. This however does not take these extra costs away and also have to be accounted for.

If the buyer is now to advertise his newly aquiered F40 will he want only 1.255 or would he want 1.534? I think this answers the question.

However seeing the current auction price I think it is fair of me, as mine is not a US spec to lower the price just a bit to get the equation more correct. However I am stil saying that less then 1500 miles is a long way from 3000 miles.

Price incl. Shipping is now 1.2m so 100k less. This should probably cover a fair part of the costs you get on the US side.
