To be fair, a decent number of FFs were sold as a condition of securing access to limited or more desirable cars. I've witnessed this, and its easy to find a number of second hand cars that are on the market due to this phenomenon. As a qualifier, I'm on my 2nd FF and will be at Villa Erba.
that's the point we are confused about - he asked me if I was smarter than Ferrari because I said at a lower msrp they wld have sold more. hes now admitting the car was so expensive they had to bribe people into buying them. lol
Yes but some of those folks who bought one jumped ahead of the loyalty line I was denied a 458 Aperta allocation which went to a newbie buying an FF. So nobody is really forced but they get other advantages - just saying
Both Bentley and MB feature 8 and 12 cylinder versions of the same car, with a handful of options and some cosmetic differentiators. But these are not Ferrari. Personally, I think a TT8 for 75k or 100k less would be a home run and boost sales ... But do you guys think that a v8 version would hurt v12 sales in the sense that folks would not want to pay flagship money for a car if there was a "lesser" version? Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I for myself would never go for V8TT when the NA V12 is available. even if the V8 would perform better and cost 100K less. Maybe a V8TT Version would indeed hurt sales of the V12 which makes it just more exclusive.
That's exactly how I got my Speciale but I wasn't "forced" to buy my FF. I freaking love the FF and wanted one.. it just came with a little Speciale gift
I enjoyed reading everyone views. Thanks for that. I do not like the looks of FF from some angles but I love the car. Specifically a bit from the side - the long nose. Having said this wanted one from the day they introduced it. Specifically for AWD, 4 seats plus luggage space and shooting brake concept/design. Somehow love all shooting brake designs. Even with all above considerations love my FF and never looked back after getting one. Love driving it. Will drive it to Como. Would love to meet personally with those of you who will be their and would not mind meeting before the event for a coffee or something.
A great attitude here ... Does anyone love the looks of a beautiful woman from EVERY angle? How egotistical are we going to be here? Is the 458 or F12 attractive to everyone from every angle? What about the front end of the 599? The FF haters are really vocal for no good reason IMO. It's a beautiful car, Pinanfarina not newbies. I have my doubts about Ferrari in house design given the TDF is trying very hard to look fast. Almost Corvette-ish. But hey I'm not on the TDF posts trashing the cars looks or price ! Looking forward to the release ...
Excellent point. What if the V8 is only sold in certain markets where the V12 is just too expensive due to taxes? If it were me, I would want the NAV12 because that says Ferrari to me. But that's just me. I also wonder what the presence of a lower priced version would do for depreciation.
IMO a V8TT would still have heavy depreciation but at a lower percentage than V12 But it would not adversely affect the V12 model. If fewer cyl count is a negative then Ferrari would not be talking about a 6cyl Dino and there's rumor of a 6cyl option in Cali sometime in the future.
You are talking to the people that were "forced" to buy ugly cars they didn't like and they resent the whole FF experience because of it. Beautiful women have nothing to do with it, we like those from all angles.
Not a married man! Or maybe a happily married one Don't argue with the pigs unless you want to get muddy? I've never learned this one.
if a V8TT were to appear it would have mostly been done for the Chinese market more than anything else - but what and how do we know better than Ferrari.... as i stated many threads ago, i would dread to pull-up to a traffic light or just driving and see some t@&t in a V8TT version of my mighty V12 F-car - who btw way was able to get "almost" the same car by paying a helluva lot less - REALLY annoying - if they can't afford it (V12) they should just buy a Maserati like the rest do
See I don't care who paid what for what. But the V12 is what makes the FF or the F12 what they are. Sure you COULD put a V8TT in a F12 ... and it would be just as pathetic of a move. I hope they are smarter than that for the US and EU markets. China or what have you? Go for it. I hope Ferrari is smarter than to alienate their current customers, many who asked for the FF exactly as it is, in a rush for more sales.
I've yet to meet anyone who was forced to buy an FF to get a Speciale. I could have got one by just putting my money on the table. If this is how it works in the US then I can only say it is a weird concept that wouldn't wash in the UK.
Have you tried buying Speciale Aperta or the TDF, as in a limited number car? This concept is very much in force in UK.
Bentley Continental V8s are not significantly cheaper than the W12s in UK market. Specifically priced like that to get around the stigma of "cheaper" model. You buy one for slightly better environmental credentials and a touch better handling, not for financial savings. Who's to say Ferrari won't follow a similar pricing strategy.
This is exactly how it will be IMV. Not too much difference in cost to make a V8TT compared to a V12 engine - my guess would be not more than £3k, plus you have the additional engineering cost so perhaps no saving at all. I would guess they may charge up to £20k less for the V8TT and use it to try and stimulate sales, always remembering that reducing margin to increase sales attracts very sensitive mathematics. In other words, if you cannibalise existing sales of a much higher margin product you just paid out a load of development cost to earn less margin. Far too risky as we see from Bentley. Price savings of $100k as have been mentioned here are way off IMO. The fact that they are trying to improve the lines of the rear, if true (and I reckon it is) is an admission that a good number of buyers have found the looks of the current car too challenging. I know looks are subjective, but just read this thread....the FF is a marmite car, it splits opinion strongly. This is now such a familiar conversation that I think we can accept it as fact. I am a recent owner of a three year old FF and have a deposit in for the new car. Mine will certainly be a V12. I'm not put off by the looks, which I like but not from every angle. I can't find a single poor angle on my Speciale (or my wife... ) but there are a few on the FF, no doubt. Still a great car though and overall a great success when you consider they were trying to package a big engine up front, four wheel drive and a full four seats.
No, in a word. But I was of the impression you had to have been a regular new car buyer to be considered for the TDF and possibly the Aperta but not obliged to buy a particular model.
Have never bought a new Ferrari - Speciale I could have just ordered and would have gotten, limited cars no chance (did ask re TDF) - Germany
Well said my friend Some other folks are so stuck up in their own world and don't realize that people want choices for various reasons and should be respected Not chastised
In my view (and I am not a car designer) one of the reasons for long nose on FF is V12 engine. It is placed so that it is behind the front wheels for weight reasons. I think you can not just put in V8TT without significantly altering design (just does not make sense - no need for so much space in front). Such car would in my view justify full new model. So I think Ferrari will show this time a redesign of existing FF with slightly tweaked V12.
