When the public asks: Do you own a Ferrari?

I answer yes just as I would if they asked if I wore glasses. Simple question simple answer. If they ask how much it cost I tell them a lot. Most people are just curious. Nothing to make a big deal about.

 

When asked I usually say I've had them and still happen to own one and leave it at that.

 

Same with me, and most people have never heard of Königsegg or Gumpert being mentioned initially.... .

I was up to multiple Ferraris, and many found this hugely interesting.
I found it personally tiring.

There's tons of ways to deflect the resentment, however:

"I'm just driving it, for the Bank"...is the best way to subtly point out to people that it may be all highly leveraged, or God forbid, a Lease!!!



When the economy is bad, for so many..it's no good can come, from seeming to "boast' of ownership.

 

"A little bit, every month"....is a great answer to the finances of it all.

A tune up equals "A wallet spanking!"

 

I have to ask why do you care what a stranger thinks?

I have a nice long beard now, I wear shorts and sweatshirts everywhere I go depending on the weather I may be without the sweatshirt! So I don't look like I belong in a Ferrari to most people that think we are all rich playboys.


No one ever really ask me if I own a Ferrari when I have my only Ferrari hat on.

I don't parade around in a bunch of ferrari clothing.
When I am driving it and people talk to me it hasn't come up yet if is mine or not.

Most people are happy to see it in the flesh and just talk about the car. I like to remind them its headed towards being 20 years old.

 

I downplay ownership. I never tell anyone I have one if not asked. I refer to the 430 as the red car to my friends when it's mentioned. I will gladly talk to others about it if questioned at the gas station or wherever.

I bought it for me not for others. I don't have any Ferrari clothing or hats.

 

Never been asked if I own a Ferrari

I look and dress more like a homeless person. Don't even own a pair of shoes or suit. I prefer to blend in.

My Garage, 2 yellows, 1 black and 1 silver Ferrari.

 

If someone ask's me because I'm wearing a hat or shirt - I just say ...I do. and leave it at that ... if they are actually interested then I say yes, and then answer questions. rarely does anyone ask outright how much... if they see me with the car then its the whole Magnum thing - I have an 86 328.... and your standard questions usually follow.

the folks who say - 3L or 3.5L engine are gear heads so you can have a clear conversation and they get it.... people at work or clients I just say "My little sports car".... if they want to know then I tell them, but usually they think Miata or what ever else... and the conversation moves on.

I just say "its my bosses car and it's my job to put gas in it or move it where he wants it". I do the same in the Lambo's, Rolls, Bentley etc.

That politely ends all questions, 90% of the time. the other 10% I say I dont know, i just move the cars, know zero about them.

The easiest way to deflect all the BS, from non car people, now if its another car owner then theres lots to talk about and i'm in and will talk all day.

So if someone did ask if you owned a Ferrari, you could honestly reply: "No! - I don't own a Ferrari!"

 

No I would answer honestly by saying "yes"

 

But that wouldn't be honest because you own more than one!

Sounds like my philosophy almost exactly, including the "red car". I do own that iconic "ferrari" t-shirt w the mustang horse, but only wear it to car shows, under a jacket. Most people don't get the subtle humor and think it's a real ferrari shirt. Most car guys love it though.

 

Same here. Amongst my friends I just refer to mine as "the black car", especially when others might overhear. Some people get really strange when they here that you own an exotic. Fortunately, around here most people don't know what it is and don't care-- if you want lots of attention you buy a Raptor. But I did have someone come out of nowhere the other night and start driving *right* on my rear bumper for some reason, so negative reactions are always on my mind.

 

Depends who's asking but most of the time I say yes.

 

Depends upon who's asking, and how they ask (attitude, tone, etc) - Some get "Yes"; most get "Just some old Fiats" (technically true).

 

People usualy hear me talking about cars in general, and some ask what kind I own. Usualy tell them about the lotus etc and casualy mention the BBI. Very few know what it is, and those I am happy to talk to. The others ask when its from and I say early 80s which signifies old minivan to them. Some ask about the color, as in is it red and when i say no that ends it.

In my experience a grey colored car usualy dampens conversation,a nd i highly recomend this color for ferraris for various reasons, they look great in it, and its not a red flag.

Most assume that if you advertise you have a ferrari and its red you are a ******, have to say mostly I agree.

 

Just tell them the truth. You asked a question- you get an answer. If you are a jerk and ask the question you might get a different version of the answer like- what things of interest do you own? Why should it matter what material items we own?

And I don't believe what color car you own makes one iota difference when someone sees you out on the road when the car in question is a Ferrari. Grey, blue, green, red, yellow, all are Ferraris. The person who is going to hate you for driving a Ferrari won't care what color it is.

 

I found owning a Ferrari can help polarise people's opinions of you much like the wrong clothes, the wrong haircut, or anything else that's different from themselves. People will always find a reason to either like you or loath you, having a Ferrari just helps them fall one side or the other much much quicker!
