    Dave Helms kindly emailed me.

He stated that since I bought my silicon hoses a couple years ago there have been two updated hose sets.....nit sure what needed updating...a hose is a hose?

He said some people have had the small drip problem and suggested I use small amount of silicon RTV sealer to seal things proper.

    Gonna try that

I still say it's a problem that didn't need fixin'. Use a rubber hose and you won't have a problem. No sealant necessary.

thought I read in 2 earlier posts that the issue with the hose in this kit was that it was oversized for the application.
if this was so then the proper procedure is to replace with a correct sized hose......

agree....just replace with the correct sized automotive grade coolant hose.
(never had any coolant hoses leak on my 355)

Well, I suspect the ID needed updating ;)

After $1800 the guy couldn't send you a new one? Nice..... Stick some duct tape in there while you are at it. DH approved repair.

Off to figure out how to put air in my tires.....

    I'm not happy
Should have stuck with rubber hoses and OEM clips

Would have saved a thousand dollars and had no leaks

Helms did offer to send me a replacement hose if the silicone thing did not work out.

He should have just sent me the new hose period....

As an owner of a few companies, all I can say is that response from Dave was worse than not sending you anything.

Simply dreadful customer service on products with 500% mark up....R&D and tooling costs included.

    As an update....

Have received a very sincere email from Dave Helms with the offer of him sending me a complete set of new hoses for my 355.

Now that is service over and above.
I have asked only for the expansion tank to engine hose.

    My confidence is totally restored
The updated hoses were due to new anti freeze in general use.

thats good news but if the DH hose kit was updated due to the new antifreeze formulations should you not take DH up on his offer & replace all the hoses?

I gather that means OAT antifreezes. I have read that OAT is not compatible with some silicon based hoses but I have not read about any incompatibility with ordinary hoses. In fact, Gates states that their Green Strip Hoses are compatible. http://www.gatesaustralia.com.au/~/media/files/gates-au/heavy-duty/hd-tech-tips/gates-green-stripe-hose-is-fully-compatible-with-todays-hightech-coolants.pdf
Of course, it's not clear that OAT antifreeze is the best choice for cars with cylinder liners anyway.

Oh well, so much for boutique hoses.

Thanks for your guidance and advice Brian. You really have it all together. Here is a picture I took today of me trying to get air in my tires:

The hose is actually pretty pliable. It is only about 18 months old...

As soon as you try to bend the hose it kinks as shown. Seeing as this installation location requires a 90 degree bend from one connection to the other, this wasn't going to work, so out it came.

I replaced it with the blue hose you see in the picture. Works perfect.

Don't think mine is a 90 degree bend...more a gentle curve...hose SR hose handles this fine
