Once a car is burn it is junk all the metal has lost the metal has lost its stability
Thank you. Always good to hear from a metallurgist. So can you explain how there was not enough heat to burn the carpet or melt the foam insulation under the carpet but still be hot enough to change the meteorology of the steel? I have a feeling it can't but please feel free to elaborate on such a baseless comment. On the Ferrari the only place it got hot enough to even burn the paint was some of the under dash so it's 99% just like it left the factory on structural integrity. On the Diablo it did get hotter, but the lower part of the car still had much of it's original chassis paint, also wiring and plastic clips that were not melted. The structural framing on the floor(which is basically the entirety of the structural framing) still has fiberglass sections and pieces of seat belt etc in the cabin so I'm not too worried about it's structure either, if it wasn't hot enough to melt rubber or burn paint then the metal is fine. Above the floor level in the cabin did get quite hot, melting aluminum. Heat goes up. light a match and see how close you can get your finger coming up from the bottom, now see how close you can get it coming down from the top... So the roof took some real heat, warped sheet metal. There is so little framing in it that there is no way it takes much of the loads put on the car. Regardless everything from the bottom of the windshield frame through the rear window is being replaced new OEM. Ignorance is bliss, whether its your ignorance or mine lets just quit while we're ahead.
I owe a autobody repair shop once the metal gets burned like that you will see it will not like to hold any type of material you apply to it something in the metal after it gets hot changes I do not know what but if we get a car in that had fire we replace all panels that have see heat for that reason. We have tried in the past and with time paint and primer will crack
Argh, looks like my buyer flaked out on me. I'll be relisting it tomorrow. His friend couldn't come pick it up for him and he decided to was just going to cost too much to ship. Without letting me even get him any quotes... Oh well. Got the 360 carcass out of he garage and the Diablo in anyway. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I helped you on the ebay add but figured with the fees and stuff you may ask for too much for it. I am still a buyer if you wish to contact me and possibly/hopefully we can make this work?? I have absolute no need for the vehicle now but you never know what tomorrow may bring. What was the final offer on ebay btw? thanks Steve 818-621-4593
I'm sure it's a bit more then you are looking to spend but if I can't get it it's no big deal, I'll just stip it down and build it. I just wanted to jump on the Diablo. Ferrari 348 Spider | eBay
