Yes, as expected. There are definitely economies of scale, so fielding 3-4 drivers would help with profitability. If you have only two drivers and one drops out pre-season or mid-season and you can't backfill the seat, it'll definitely be a loss. Other revenue streams would be required I think to make it a consistently profitable venture.

Interesting. So, Target is basically a wholesaler of sponsorship for the Ganassi's team? They buy everything and re-sell portions to other sponsors? And if they can't find a buyer at the price they want, they keep their logos on the car?

yep you see a lot of the lower tier teams fielding 4 or 5 cars for that reason. I think SPR had half the grid of last year's Indy Lights season!

the only people who make money are those with a strong proven track record, which means they spent a fortune to get there. Chip Ganassi comes to mind, but there are darn few other. Team Hammer in bikes makes money, but darn few do.

Riders, driver have to buy their ride, or sponsors have to cover their expenses. In MotoGP I think Dorna pays the way for many teams.

It's a very tough sport. If your interest is money, you might look for something a lot less intense, and difficult.

From someone who's represented more than a few teams, and drivers, riders.

Thought about this for a long time, was very close to a USF2000 team. I couldn't see the numbers doing much more than getting to breakeven. How many drivers can you have effectively, 3? At $250k a seat? What's the number now, I've lost track. As you know, it just takes so much stuff and so many people to compete with the likes of Cape.

At these levels I've assumed guys like Anderson just love racing and being involved in young guys' careers. I get that.
