I think that inevitably, F1 is heading that way, with more and more components becoming standardised, as part of a cost cutting exercise. Already we have 10 teams, but only 4 engines. Some suspension parts, transmissions, wheels, and other items can also be outsourced. Maybe soon a survival cell will also be shared, until it becomes the whole chassis, etc...

I maintain that there isn't 12 engineering concerns worldwide able to design, build, develop and operate a field of 24 F1 cars with equal chances as Ecclestone would like. What you have is a huge discrepency between maybe 4 manufacturers -some with unlimited budget, a couple of midfield teams more or less well funded, and the minnows operating on a shoestring.

I know that many people will object to what I say, but I don't see F1 becoming a one make series as necessarily a bad thing. It would be more level-playing field for the drivers. As for the constructors title. it would become the teams title.

F1 seems to be the last series that isn't a one make series. All the single seater championships are one-make series, I think, by design or by necessity.

The races I have seen so far have been boring. The rules or technology just isn't there yet.

I raced electric go-karts recently and they were fun and they sounded better than the current F1 cars :p

    It's not. F3 and F4 aren't one-make. I'm sure there are plenty of others.

F4 was one make for the 1st season but they relaxed the rules and now there are 4 engine suppliers with a 5th to come. They also have 3 chassis suppliers.

F3 has 5+ engine suppliers but it depends on the region with 3 chassis suppliers.

It's possible for Formula 1 to be more competitive if they just listened to their fans instead of making BS rules.

    Can you name any?

I must say that I don't know much about F4, but the last time I attended an F3 race in UK, all the cars were Dallara-VW.

Indy and Indy light are one make series.

Super Formula, Formula Renault 3.5, GP2, GP3, F2 (when it existed), A1 series, Formula Vauxhall, Formula BMW, Formula Renault are or were all one make series.

That's the reason chassis manufacturers like Reynard or Lola went bust. Thet lost their market.

I cannot say that I like one make series, since there is no diversity, but I can see that from a financial point of view, they make sense. There is no competition between chassis or engine providers, so no evolution, no development cost. The cars can be used several seasons, instead of replaced every year.

From a sporting point of view, they -in theory- put all the competitors, teams and drivers at the same level. Only the driving makes the difference. I like that aspect.
