What do you mean by "Challenge package"? What does it include?

If there are any Challenge parts on the car, you're not showcasing them. Additionally, saying that it has the "Challenge package" implies that it comes with the Challenge kit that came with the few 1994 "factory" Challenge cars. This may be the case, and perhaps the kit is included separately, but the Challenge kit would include steering wheel, aluminum pedals, roll cage, Speedline wheels, brake ducting, tow hooks, lower light covers, OMP kevlar/cf seats and mounting hardware, harness, etc, just to name some of the main components.

I realize that you only have a few posts on FChat, so really just trying to be helpful. Glws.

This whole situation is confusing - especially since the seller of this car posted an original ad for his car a couple of weeks ago with a link to multiple pictures and an asking price of 52.5k for the car. One of the pictures showed a copy of the original window sticker which stated the car was a Challenge car. Based upon this and studying his original pictures to determine if there were roll cage mounting points in the front floor board and on the rear parcel shelf, I concluded that the car was probably one of the 32 factory Challenge cars (even though SN 98818 is not listed on the known Challenge cars, I figured it was one of the handful of 32 unaccounted for). From these older pictures it appears as though this car never had the Challenge package installed by the dealership, nor did it have the XX of 32 Challenge ID tag installed in the car, but I have heard that sometimes the dealers did not do this.

Nevertheless, for the price stated in the ad I immediately reached out to the seller via PM, the thread, and responding to an email address in the thread. As best I could tell, I was the first one that posted a response to the thread. I never received any reply from the seller and within a few hours the original for sale posting was taken down by the moderator. In fact, I now remember the original for sale ad was posted at 4:32pm on Super Bowl Sunday and my response was sometime that evening.

    I was trying to figure out if this was a real car for sale or the seller just did not know what he had and was selling for what I thought was way below market. One reason that I thought this is because the seller has less than 10 posts to Fchat with the first one being on 1/13/2016 and this is his posting;

"Hello sir , what is the difference between 94 348 tb to your ts ? i am new to ferrari myself. my is 348tb 1994"

Did this seller ultimately get inundated with request to buy his car at the listed price immediately and so he requested the moderator to remove the post --- then he reposted the car for sale again a couple of weeks later with no price and instructions simply to PM him?? Did he finally realize what he had? Something doesn't seem right on this whole situation, but maybe it is just sour grapes on my part as I would have really liked to have owned that car for 52.5k if it was a real Challenge Car. Perhaps the seller can give some background on what really happened here?

I remember this as well. In fact, he had listed it as a California car which really got my attention to go see it... Something is definitely fishy...

I'll chime in here. I contacted the seller as well, because I regret selling my 348 Challenge last year.

He was responsive to me at first, but when I asked for pictures of specific areas of the car, he just sent me a picture of the window sticker, the VIN plate, and pictures of the toolkit and manuals. The window sticker does show the VIN, but it also shows that this car was originally delivered Red over Beige. Sure doesn't look like a Beige interior anymore, according to the seller's pics.

When I asked him to explain what happened, he clammed up. No more replies. I was seriously interested in the car, as it seems like a lot of you were, and tonight I saw the pending sale reply. I wouldn't normally post in a thread like this, but I'm a little miffed.

I'm not saying this isn't legitimate, and I wish the buyer and seller the best of luck, but I'd tread carefully here...

I reached out to the seller, very interested. Asked for additional pics, got the window sticker and the luggage. Asked him about the challenge package and why nothing was shown. No answer... Would have paid what he asked for it.

Everyone relax! I think the seller has not gotten back to anyone because I bought the car.

Will post pictures and info once the car is here! VERY excited.

I really don't think he knew what he had. Considering offers and requests we came to a fair price. It was not a steal... But the car was an original Challenge car that was never converted.

So what is the story on the interior color change? I'm just curious, because this is an "unknown" 348 Challenge up to this time, at least to those of us who track these cars, and many of us would like to know the full story of the car.

From my understanding it is a typo. Prior to purchasing I checked with Ferrari and the car is in their system as a Challenge car as ROSSO over NERO.

I will update everyone more later today and get more info.

    NOT for sale.

I have gone through 2 Challenge cars hoping to find a car I could actually drive.

It's pretty common to see clerical errors on Ferrari monroney labels from that era. The VIN confirms that this indeed was built as a Rosso Corsa/Nero Challenge car. The buyer seems to have scored a nice deal as long as everything checks out.

There's probably no point in resurrecting this dead horse (pun intended), but you can "actually drive" this one because a "Factory Challenge" car without the Challenge bits isn't really a Challenge car in my opinion. There's nothing about it that renders it track-ready, so of course it's not a "hair shirt" and can be driven daily. It may be the final iteration of the model, and that's normally a good thing, but it's no different from other 348s in terms of driving dynamics.
Not that one couldn't drive a full-race 348CH on the street if one's local laws and intestinal fortitude allow- it's been done often enough, as some of us know. You merely need a high tolerance for noise, heat, and general discomfort!

    Agreed Ira!

I think Sherpa did a great job converting his car to a street-able "Challenge" car that is still VERY comfortable. I would love to do a Tubi, put the 18inch Speedline Challenge wheels, Challenge Springs and call it a day!

BTW would love to have your car at the Miami Beach Concours if you can make it!
