Can anyone who knows for certain (maybe a new owner), confirm the color of the rear turn signals and rear hazard flashers on a US version 488? In Eurupe they are Amber, but US cars are sometimes red, depending on the cluster design and how it conforms with US DOT regulations (as with the 458). Thank you.

I cannot help you with your question ... but, I have always wondered why in the world cars in the US can have either amber or red turn/emergency flashers. I prefer amber. I then question why manufacturers that market vehicles worldwide, would make US cars with red flashers and other countries with amber ... same vehicle. It must come down to "styling" ... perhaps even same a few pennies per car.

Strange, in some ways US leads with car regulations that improve safety and in some we lag behind. I believe in US we were first to require cars have airbags. I could be wrong here though. But we were last to allow cars with halogen headlights with replaceable bulbs (anyone remember sealed beam headlights?). You would think that US regulators would adopt the amber turn signal standard that is present in the rest of the world. Tests indicate that amber turn signals are more effective than red for this application.

On my 360, I converted the rear tail lights to have amber turn signal / emergency flashers in the center of the outer rear assemblies, all four lights red for tail lights and brake lights and white center lights in the inner two assemblies for reverse. Look much nicer than original US spec 360.

I totally agree with you. Funny how high-end car owners will obsess over every little detail (i.e., stiching, tach color, wheel hubs, etc.) and yet most have no opinion about this topic. At the same time, tail light clusters have evolved to be one of the most significant elements in automotive design. As for the reason why there is a color difference in the US, some are of the opinion that it is simply a DOT regulation. I'm not a regulatory expert, but I would have to believe it's a choice that brands make, in addition to conforming to US regulations. For example, today in the US, every Mercedes-Benz car has red turn signal flashers, and yet, Lexus and Land Rover have made certain every one of their cars have amber. Still, some brands have a mix. Interestingly, I have received offline emails from 488 owners who have told me that their car has amber and another told me red. So, I guess I'm looking for a few tie breaker messages to resolve a seemingly simple question. All it takes is pressing their hazard button and looking. Thank you.

That's because in the US there are specific Federal Regulations that differ from European & Asian requirements.
The Fed Gov sets the standards. If you want to sell cars in the US, then you must conform to the regulations. Simple as that.

Yes, that's understood. But, in the US, there isn't a rule that requires one color over the other, which is why you see both yellow and red in market. In Europe and Asia, turn signal flashers are required to be yellow.

Yes, US 458 were always red. This question was specifically regarding the 488.

The tail lights are red with a center that turns yellow in turning and flashing mode
