599 GTB: Heater Delete/Bypass

Hello,

As I live in the middle east, and the 599 is a fairly "hot" car, I have decided to completely delete the heater - honestly I cannot imagine ever using it, even in colder climates, as the engine radiates lots of heat into the cabin.

I have more or less figured it out, but would like to know if anyone has any suggestions as how to do it.

My plan is to connect or bypass the two "black lines" that go to the heater valves and then connect the "red" to the "brown" to each other.

What about simply unplugging the electric line to one of the electromechanical valves? Assuming that they are nc. You might need to bridge the appropriate plug contacts with a resistor (or several) having the resistance of the valve actuators, to avoid any "confusion" of electronic systems.

If they are no, then your approach will make most sense. No problems to be anticipated, since the valves will be activated into the closed position and no "shortcut" of the heater circuit is created.

If you really want to throw the heater unit out, then one would have to think about potential function problems if the valves are opened by whatever action. But I suppose that this is not intended, because the car is presumably built around the heater/aircon unit .

By the way, what is the intended difference to just setting the temperatur below ambient temperatures?

Excellent question.

Hot water valves stay closed, no hot water flow, no heat in cabin from heater. Seems simple to me.

 

I obviously have them "closed" - but there is still hot water flowing through - I verified this by touching the pipes.

Also, with the AC "off" and the temperature set to the minimum, it blows hot air out of the air vents - if this wasn't the issue I obviously would not bother with this whole operation

Most probably the valves are not completely "closing" and hot water is flowing through the valves.

Try doing the same test: put the temp to the min., leave the AC off, and turn on the air blower and check the temperature of the air coming out the vents.

 

No, the entire heater unit will be empty of water and not connected to the water circuit - I will bypass the heater valves, so they will not have any water going to them.

 

Or perhaps replace the apparently defective valves?

Has the advantange that the heater is still functional. From own experieence I know that nights in the middle east, if away from the coasts, can be quite chilly ...

If you want to avoid the costs of repair, then just cutting one hose (I assume that there is a hose in the heater circuit somewhere?) and rejoining it with a solid rod might be the most simple way. And that can be reversed even without replacement of the hose, by replacing the solid rod by a hollow one.

The climate control mixes hot and cold air to get the temperature you set, so why would you eliminate one of the sources for the climate control? Gets cold there in the winter last time I was in Saudi Arabia.

 

The heater valves are allowing coolant to get passed them - even when setting them at minimum tempature.

The car gets warm, even without the heater, so there will be no need for that.

The climate control also controls the passage of hot coolant into the heater inside the cabin - this is my problem, it isn't staying cool.
