They look great. Was it expensive ? I know, if I have to ask.
Agreed. If you could post some info on the powder etc that your powder coater used, it'd help more than a few people. I think yours came out perfect and I wouldn't mind replicating that look when it comes time to have mine done, which is coming up soon. Perhaps your powder coater wouldn't even mind doing a run for a few people?
I did ask them about doing more and they loved the idea. Send them in they said. Given the size of the place I was stunned they even bothered with my little project, but they were great. I did not get the MFG / part number of the powder they used. $250 to coat the six pieces (airbox tops, bottoms & side panels) $250 to chemically strip them (I asked just as a reference). Having stripped my own, I would probably pay them to do it next time. I spent $50 just for the stripper and the smell was more than I bargained for. Even if they did, powder coat results can vary greatly based on the process so just because the same powder is used by different vendors does not mean the outcome will be the same.
I glass beast blast aluminum almost daily. No issues whatsoever. The key is taking measures to reduce heat. The engine bay panels I posted where glass bead blasted also. Most PC shops will blast before application also. I'd bet they blasted yours.
Thin wall AL parts with a group that is used to carbon steel? I'll pass on that experience until they are properly trained. Can you do it? Sure. Do I need to be the early part of the learning curve? Nah... There is a shop here that will do it. They use everything from sand, walnuts shells & dry ice for blasting.
That's how I see it, done it many times. I was asking simply because any powder coaters I know blast EVERYTHING, using media per type of metal. Even if I've already done it, they do it again to guarantee a clean surface to bond to. It was only a question, hope it lasts without issue.
