Why no wing? I thought that was such an important safety piece for the GT3/RS?

Because the original "R" was a light-weight package without additional scaffolding. Plus I luv-luv it without the add-on aero bits.

I think the recent rear tail versions have gone beyond being tasteful anyhow.

And speaking of tasteful... Get a load of that interior. This car is working the right angles.

At least it is lighter that the GT3 RS, it is manual and putting a wing will be easy but for me not necessary.

nothing new here, everything shown on the R has been available for special / custom order, Porsche has consolidated what a few customers have ordered into an options package that can be marketed with a single click from their massive options catalog... for those that keep forgetting that the Porsche brand is a custom / build to order manufacturer as well... that 4.0 is a real kick in the grass...

Asking a question in relation to your statement that everything the 911r has was already available for order.

I believe that "talk" is limited to the GT3, not RS....which is specifically what Andreas Preuninger said last fall at the Rennsport Reunion.

I'm afraid that the price (and prices over sticker) and limited numbers will cause it to be unobtainium...

But what a pretty car. I'd love this to be the Porsche to replace my first 911 - an '83 SC. World's apart but that DNA.

    AP speaks...again.

Next Porsche Cayman GT4 to stick with flat-six engine | Auto Express

Preuninger also revealed that the 911 R’s new six-speed manual gearbox is likely to be offered in the second generation of the 991 GT3. “I can certainly imagine this gearbox in the GT3,” he said. “There is some overlap, with the 911 R for purists and the GT3 RS for track day fans, and then the GT3 in the middle. Right now it’s just with PDK, but I can certainly imagine gen-2 GT3 getting this manual transmission.”
