    Thanks all!

David, I'll be sure to bring it by. I am happy I got a turbo, though that hasn't ended my search for an earlier car as well. ;)

Andy - I've been over at the Lotus forums as well snooping around. I've spoken to a couple of people so far that have been very helpful. Seems like a very good group.

Jas - thanks. It was your photo that sparked my interest in the Esprit again!

I'll say it for the umpteenth time; a great condition Esprit is seriously undervalued. A fine condition S4 is mid to upper twenties. To get a Ferrari that's as fast and handles anywhere near as well, you must spend what ... $80,000?

Would love to see more photos. Beautiful car. I think this plus an early version would be the perfect pair.

Here's an interesting one... Seller claims (and appears genuine) 1500 miles from new. 1987 Esprit hC turbo.

    Lotus Esprit S3 | eBay

I am going to guess it had a minor accident and body repairs were begun and then never finished. It's been sitting for 25+ years!

No affiliation, but will watch with interest.

Strange that its listed as an S3 but is actually a Turbo. Although maybe not so strange in fact as even owners of Turbo Esprits sometimes incorrectly refer to their car as an S3.

The Esprit S3 was launched after the Turbo Esprit and was a cost-reduced model without the turbo.

Lots of work needed there! It looks like its been rear-ended as it has a new exhaust and there is something going on with the gearbox. Nobody would drain the gearbox oil and remove the rear cover for no reason, maybe it got broken as the exhaust is mounted to it. Possibly a reason for the sale.

Interior looks over 1500 miles though.

Are the 98 year models highly desired by lotus enthusiast?

Over a 97 year yes due to some key changes. Otherwise probably not much difference between the years 98-04. The aniv & sport 350 ones are probably the most sought after or highest value but then again they are the newest. Sport 350 , Anv Edition , then probably 98-04 based on personal pref ( color and wheels ) then the 97

Cool! Don't forget that British Car Day is at Delgado Community College (across from City Park) on March 19th from noon until 3pm. Web site is "British Motoring Club of New Orleans" for details/registration.

I found renewed respect for the Lotus Esprit after watching one endure the 2-part 1,600mile Top Gear adventure through Argentina and Chile. One heck of a tough trip. The other two cars needed repair underway. The Esprit not so. Forget what model year, but it had a twin-turbo V8, so a later iteration.

    Cheers,
    - Art

I have been looking for an S1 for about a month now. If anyone knows of a nice, complete LHD car, please reach out. Willing to pay a fair market price or finders fees.

The two best kept secrets in the collector car world. Two cars that are so different, yet so great in their own way and equally under appreciated.
