We just got back from taking the 400i for a quick run up the unlimited speed section. Pushed it up to 150MPH (240 KM/H) for a while now it has its new tyres on. It was nice & smooth & reached this speed easily with a bit left to go - I don't think it has lost too many of its horses over the years. :) What a blast I still can't get the smile off my face.

Today, like yesterday and tomorrow I've been waiting for my car to get home. Very anxious to get it.

    That's looking great Simon!

Are you replacing the front cover on the water pump & if so where did you find a replacement? I have been searching for a long time & can't find one.

    Cheers Al

The engine, and indeed, the rest of the car is 1000 miles away from me in Caboolture Queensland.
My mechanic, and main wrench to most of the other Fchatters here,Marc,is away at the circuit for the next few days.
He is the main man for Mark Griffiths racing.

When he gets back,I'll ask the question.

    Hi Mitchell,

    I'm after a water pump cover for a 400i.

Congratulations on getting your convertible home - It's a very nice looking car.

    Cheers Al

Marc will have a look to see if he can help.
Apparently it's the luck of the draw,if your car/s have been running coolant their whole lives, then odds are that they will be OK.
Marc has 3 of these engines/covers,2 are good,1 is crook/corroded.

    Thanks Simon,

One of mine was destroyed by the impellor which had ground into it (missing retaining nut on impellor when I purchased the car).

    Cheers,
    Al

I'm all but done with replacing the exhaust system on my 400i. Once I get the car on a rack I'll get some photos of it. Yup, I put the system on using jack stands in my garage. It was more work to get the old system off than to put the new one on, and that's with a Sawzall doing a lot of the work. All new mounts, seal, and gaskets. New clamps for the balance tubes supplied by a Kawasaki dealer was the only divergence from stock.
Well I did get photos of the back with the new chrome plated 304 stainless tips. More later.
    Next.
I want to refinish the wheels but I'm concerned with the composition of the wheel. Is it a magnesium alloy? Does that cause special considerations for refinishing? What do I need to know to undertake that process?
Note: the bumper is covered with dust from Las Vegas's famous blowing 5 Micron dust. It's like flower and ends up on everything. Time for some cleaning.

Happy Father's Day to all dads in the U.S. - if any of you receive any 365 GT4 2+2/400/412 stuff, post it here! Hope you can take your cars out for a nice drive while those of us hope we can do the same next year, or sooner!

In the meantime, watching 24 Le Mans (taped delay) coverage :)

They both look great! If you have all 8 wheels mounted on good tires and have the option/possibility, then switch to the Borranis for a bit until you get the itch to switch them back out! They look really good on your car!

Love the Borranis but they seem wrong with this seventies styling
