eurospares usually takes used parts by damaged cars. This seems to be original ( look at the imperfections all over .... )

Thanks, he said it was a new unused part and original Ferrari part which I find hard to believe but maybe I'm worrying about nothing

First of all its not a spoiler, it is just the regular front valance.

I know, there is a deep spoiler and a shallow spoiler. (Think it's just euro speak!)

My car has the deep one, but was ordered with the shallow one wanted to get it back to original spec.

    Only I don't want a fake one.

I would expect this is a new one made from a mould, widely available in the uk from dtm power etc.

Thanks, I think you are right.

Do you know if the 1979 euro GTB spoiler was made from moulded plastic or fibreglass?

There is a tatty looking fibreglass one on fleabay from a 77 car, but not sure if it's the same material and I can't check as the car is not with me.

    Thanks for help

They are fibreglass, I also have an original one which is tatty, heavy and repaired numerous times. I can't see any reason to keep this over a fresh lightweight new one. I have just bought a new one and it was very light, finished in orange fibreglass (as original). Mind you I have done some precautionary reinforcement around risk areas.

I just imagine the injection mould and the appropriate machine size for a spoiler made from moulded plastic :)
I think noone could afford it.

    Best Regards

It probably is.....note the seams in it.
    It is metal, not fiberglass.

I had one like this on my #22641

Most are indeed 'glass and pretty easy to repro.

Being steel, if it had been mounted the battery acid would have dissolved a hole in it!

    Thanks James for your opinion!!

Eurospares has mostly new OEM parts and that's a steel OEM one for sure.

    Thanks for the comments.

So if this is steel and the OEM is made from fibreglass as confirmed by Martin (he knows his stuff) how can this be OEM?

Unless of course Ferrari started making them from steel after 1979.

Off to see the car tomorrow (in a thousand bits and with no paint on!) so will update then.

    Cheers

It is for a steel bodied car and it is made of Glass. It is not for a glass car and it is not made of steel

Can you tell me where you picked up your fibreglass one from?

If these are meant to be fibreglass I don't want a steel one.

    Many thanks

I think there is some confusion.

Regardless if the car was made of fiberglass, or steel, all front valances/spoilers, large and small, came from the factory in fiberglass.

That one looks OEM to me. In fact, it looks just like mine. It also appears to have a primer coat on it. From everything I have seen, OEM from the factory had an orange gel coat finish (the outer layer was orange).

    Thanks Sean

I'll call the supplier tomorrow and make sure it's not metal, and buy it if it's not. I'll also ask them to check its it orange under that grey coat.

I wonder why some people talk of steel spoilers... All very confusing.

    Many thanks

+1, I can confirm from my 85 308QV (#54159), with all original paint and never altered in any way from factory, that the front valance is indeed fiberglass (or fibreglass if you prefer!)... Not steel!

    Cheers!

Who is talking of "steel Spoilers" ???

"Steel spoiler" means a fiberglass spoiler for a steel car
"Glass spoiler" means a fiberglass spoiler for a fiberglass car (Vetroresina)

There have NEVER been any spoilers made of steel as Sean correctly posted before

    the confusion/wrong info continues:

The shallow front valance came OEM in both fibreglass or steel, dep. on availability.

No. The spoilers came both steel and fiberglass. Why? Market specific I dont know but they come both ways.
