A bit of background: about 6 months ago I began my hunt for a Speciale Aperta, shortly after I had the pleasure of testing the 488GTB at Fiorano and noticed prices of Speciales firming up steadily in the secondary market. But as I quickly found out, this was essentially an impossible task without paying a massive premium, particularly for an RHD car.

I therefore turned my attention to finding a Speciale instead, hoping a low mileage example in my favorite Blu Pozzi / White Stripe combination would somehow show up. None did.

Over the following months, I looked at numerous cars (Rosso / Giallo / Argento) and to cut a long story short, finally settled on a 1,700km Bianco Avus / Nero car in as-new condition owned by a car collector friend.

Perhaps a blessing in disguise, this particular car was specified without a stripe presenting me with an opportunity to do a bit of personalization. I was in love with a simple stripe design that I saw on a Speciale Aperta and decided to have it painted in Blu Pozzi, by none other than Carrozzeria Zanasi in Maranello. Whilst the car was there, I added a set of diamond cut Speciale Aperta wheels, carbon centre cabs and black exhaust tips.

The car has just returned home and I'm delighted with the results. Below are some before / after shots :)

Amazing! The Blu Pozzi is an amazing color. Just sold my 458 Spider in that color.

I'm thinking of a Speciale as well, not in the same exquisite path as you however finding the right combo in interior and exterior with some customization. What's your interior?

Great looking car - I did my Aperta stripe in TDF blue as that's pretty much a match for the blue tech fabric in my seats. At the atelier we tried a bunch of blues. Not sure that it actually matters though as the light hits interior and exterior and reflects differently.

Thanks all for the kind words!

@DavidJames1 saw pictures of your Aperta and it's a stunner. Love the TDF blue accents and agree it is a much better match for the blue technical fabric. I did contemplate making changes to the interior initially but decided that Blu Pozzi is so dark it almost appears black in most lighting conditions that it wouldn't clash too much with the seats.

I looked at your pics before reading your post and thought "how the heck did he get an Aperta stripe on the car?" The factory refused to do that on my Speciale.. did you clear coat over the stripe?

    Looks great!

It's difficult to spec out the Bianco Avus. The bi-color treatment shows great taste. Fantastic wheels to match!

I much prefer the "before" status, FWIW, but it's all good if you like it and you're enjoying! Congratulations! :)

Yes I'd agree the wheels are not to everyone's taste. I've boxed up the originals and will keep them also on hand in case I want to switch around in time.

I haven't checked the paint depth readings / paint corrected the car yet, that will happen next week but I'm quite sure there's clear coat over it. In fact the main reason why I sent the car to Zanasi at Maranello for the job was to try and achieve a 'factory finish'.
