Rob, Where else do you put Dynamat? Just in the doors or are you putting it on the floor also before you install the carpeting? I have never worked with it before. Might consider doing it in my doors when I address my slow left window..

Dnamat offers a few different products for different applications. Has anyone here tried them?

    Freinds,

Al is doing the entire restoration. He said there was foam behind the seats, and is replacing it with the thinnest dynmat which is basically foil with a rubber foam backing and adhesive. I probably would not have used it as I wanted the engine to be loud, but he has done several of these now and knows what he is doing.

I installed Dynamat inside the doors, floor, and under the rear seat/firewall.

The car doors close and sound like an old Mercedes Benz. All of the road noise from under the car has been reduced to an acceptable level. It also keeps the car cooler on hot days.

Nothing but good comes from it. It is definitely worth the small increase in weight!

I put Dynamat on my floor and inside the doors of my 308 GTS. The effect was to dampen a lot of the unpleasant noises (the higher frequency sounds that sound like gravel rattling off of the bottom of the floorpan). Like Mr. Kook, the doors now sound great too; a solid pleasant thud. No difference in engine noise. I am pleased with the effects. I did not redo my firewall.

Note that Dynamat is a noise damper, not a thermal insulator. It's R-factor is probably pretty poor. Aerogel (the trade name for space shuttle tile stuff) is now available in various forms including flexible matting. BuyAerogel.com | Blankets The R-factor is about 2.5 times that of the best of standard insulations. However, at least for the GTS/GTB, the heat really does not come from the rear; its mostly through the front bulkhead.

Regarding weight, I used 35 sq. ft. of Dynamat Extreme which adds 12 lbs.

    Thanks.
I'm confused as to which Dynomat product you guys are referring to. The web site shows different products for different applications.

Dynamat is great stuff. They are located just 5 miles from me.

Before I retired I was working in R&D for prototype production machinery for making diapers. The machinery can be pretty loud and is within a plexiglass safety cage. We were experimenting with Dynamat in an effort to reduce the noise level on the production floor. We ordered 2 skids of various types of Dynamat, each skid was stacked over 6 feet tall! The project was abandon when the design of the machine changed significantly and the Dynamat went to a long term storage warehouse which usually means it would eventually be scrapped.

Oh how I tried to get my hands on that Dynamat (and save the company disposal costs, yeah that's it! ) but due to corporate liability (thank you trial lawyers) it was not to be.

I haven't been able to find a post for this video elsewhere on this site, so time to take a pause and enjoy. Couldn't think of a better place to post than in this great thread. even if a repeat, it is damn worth it and a superb video. Love the color as well.

    Freinds,

I apologise to all for not posting more photos sooner. Al has been very busy and almost done with my car. He entered it in Cavallino as a surprise but it did not win a prize as the rules were so strict this year, anything 97 and above won points. I asked for him to do a leather interior and they took points of for that and a few other things like the thin aluminum sheet I asked him to add to the engine firewall! Anyway I will post some more pics when I get some but here are a few just to catch up! It looks very nice, cant wait to see it in person! I have a perfect tool kit here waiting for its new owner!!!

    Sincerely,

    Rob

The interior looks great! What was not originally leather, aside for the dashboard? I know there were more Euro cloth / ultra suede cars...

Isn't there always a sheet of metal back there?

    Your car is perfect man.

I think it got 96 points. Al knows way more than I, but it seems weird that leather wasnt available as an option on the early euro cars. This car had cloth before the restoration but the only photos I have seen showed what seemed to be a reupholstery of the original material. All the euro cars just had just foam for a firewall. I asked Al to add the thin sheet which a few euro guys have added that I have seen. I know it was not original but thought it would be easier to clean and live with?
