My friend is currently restoring an awesome 308 GT4, I thought I would share a few pics. Man I love this car!!! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Is that the one owner car that is at some of the Bay Area events? I believe a women owns it. Who is doing the work?
I love that colour Is it a factory original colour ? Do you know if it has been hard to find a modern paint to match the original paint ? Do you know the name and brand of the paint the owner has used ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for your questions Jimgolf. Yes, it is in the bay area, but my friend is not a women so I think the one you are referring to might be a different person. Unless she was the one that sold it to my friend? You probably know him if you're probabaly familiar with the Bay Area, Johannes. Cheers
Hi David, thanks for your questions, YES! It is the original factory color, pictures don't do it justice, you have to really see in person to appreciate the color. I'm pretty sure it's metallic, but next time I go see him, I'll look at the color tag (the one with parrot on it haha) and get the exact name. Also, I'll ask him how hard it is to match the paint, although the car has I think only about 18K miles. The point is in EXCELLENT condition, so he might not have to do anything about the paint. The engine is undergoing a complete rebuild. I'll take more pics and share. I've always loved the 308 GT4, I'm very happy that people are appreciating them more and more as well...(well actually kind of sad too, because they are now out of my reach) Cheers
The gt4 owned by the elderly woman (an attorney) was a gold color. This one looks bronze (unless photo lighting issues). She was the original owner of her car. I tried to buy it from her a few years ago. I almost persuaded her to sell, but she wanted to hold onto it a few more years. Maybe she has finally decided to sell. The sun visor has an autograph from Lilli Bertone on it.
Car looks good. More pics are always great to see. Odd that the engine needs to be rebuilt with only 18k miles on it. Maybe they thought they needed to change the sodium valves? I have a '75 GT4 with 25k miles that was sitting in storage for 25 years and it started right up and still had great compression in each cylinder. I did have to rebuild the distrubutors and carbs as well as replace all the belts, hoses and fluids to be safe. Then every bushing, brakes, shocks, steering rack rebuild, tires, interior conditioning and a few more deferred items.
Paul, To the best of my knowledge (?) I don't think you could find a parrot on a GT4... Parrot means Glasurit; all GT4 are still in Glidden(Salchi) paints. Glasurit appeared at the spring of 1981. Rgds
Thanks Paul More pics would be much appreciated I would be particularly keen to know if the paint is Nocciola Metallizzato and whether the owner has had to repaint any panels and match new paint Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This is that car I think you're talking about at Concorso last year and I'm pretty sure that's her sitting behind it. Is this the same car being restored? Edit: customized license plate means barrister - British for attorney. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I agree. Nocciola was not a color that was offered on the GT4 as far as I know, so it could be oro chiaro and the color is distorted by the camera or screen. Or it may not be original paint. The car in post 14 appears to be oro chiaro.
That's the one I was thinking about. Hard to believe there are 2 like that in be same area. The license plate is covered for some reason on the one in the shop but it looks like they both start with an 8.
Hi folks, looking at the license plate (barely made it out, looks like it ends with "TR") I can confirm it is a different car (unless the plates were swapped out) I'll try to get more pics and info...let me know if you guys have any specific questions on the rebuild I can answer. It's nice to have an open engine in front of you to get those nagging questions that only a full engine out can answer!
