You'll be correcting Patrick Mimran himself (!) then, I just spoke with him extensively. He first arrived at the factory with Jean-Claude in the fall of 1980 and was approved by Artesi to bid to acquire the firm. On the 23rd of May 1981, Group Mimran acquired its interests for just 3,850,000,000 Lire, about $3 million US at the time. Once the assets were acquired, Jean-Claude had nothing to do with the running of the company, as he continued to pursue the family's sugar & plastic operations in Dakar, Senegal. Patrick Mimran was at the factory almost full-time in the early years, and in order to facilitate his traveling, he brought in Emile Novaro who was the family's right-hand man (not a car person at all) to simply oversee the Sant Agata works and trouble-shoot. He stayed on for a short period when Chrysler took over.
Yes, I do Since I worked that "period" with another approach which is not bad either ! Never forget that a lot of people like to enhance their own story... you should aware of that since you investigate too ! As you just mentionned and correct yourself, it was in 1981, before it was another story... I have interviewed several people who worked directly daily under that "new owner" who all reported a "little different" than how you present thinks... but it is still good a opinion/interview. as always, memory and >< angles from narrative persons differ often...
Indeed, history is always open to interpretation. I think its fair to say his tenure with the works was 1980 to 1987. I'll be speaking to him again and ask him to elaborate, at least I'm speaking directly to the source, so that is good. He is a really down-to-earth guy I think, quite humble, not given to exaggeration, easy to speak with.
I know he has strong qualities... because people have good comments about him ! About 1980, I will report dates in my book, but allow me to keep them actually
I'd say, interview all involved People and take that what all say identically as the most probably truth...
thank you Raymond, it is exactly what I'm doing, taking what is the same in common for all of them...
That's the received wisdom on my end as well, based on a number of people I spoke to, before I found him.
I assume this is for your upcoming book? Then, to be fair to Patrick and complete with your research, you should speak to Patrick Mimran as well, so you have his side documented. IMO, he has a good memory, and he says he enjoyed the process of going down memory lane.
