    Robert, Thank you for the tutorial. However, my manual says to use 4 quarts of gear oil. You have indicated 6. Please explain the extra 2 quarts. thanks. '79 308

    I just pour it in till it comes out the back hole then I shut it up and add I more quart. The high gears get starved for oil and it was a Ferrari tech who suggested it. I also run and extra quart in the engine to prevent starvation on corners 20+ years and no problems.... I am not an expert though...... just my 2 cents!

    Sorry to drag up an old thread is it GL4 or GL5 75-90 redline.

    In my 1982 308GTSi RedLine GL4 MTL. Many others will chime in .......

    It is GL4 - there are no hypoid gears in the 308 transmission/differential unit. It's hypoid gears, like in a traditional differential, that require the EP extreme pressure additives in GL5.

    I tried the Redline 75W90/75W90NS mix that has been recommended here, then changed to Redline MTL as recommended by Rifledriver - I found it shifts better with MTL, a GL4 fluid.

    This is a very useful article, thank you. I recently did an overdue transmission oil change and miraculously the filler did come undone, somehow.
