Enjoying a nice southeastern morning today in my 86 Euro when under spirited accel to about 70mph from 40 she suddenly sounded like an old Chevy, chuggy, and almost like it blew a hole in a section of exhaust pipe. Sounded also like it dropped a cylinder - not a bank - as there was no real discernible drop in very conservative driving the mile home. There's also a concurrent metallic sound. Wont have a chance to check all plugs for spark until tomorrow some time. Any other thoughts?

Have posted a few vids, though it's hard to tell the audio, in hopes something discernible is there. Thanks for replies.

Hmmm, I had a similar incident in Sept 2014 - my Euro 308 QV (same headers as on the Euro 328) sounded like a VW Beetle crossed with a lawn mower when I removed my ear plugs after pulling off the highway! It also had a horrible metallic clanking, scraping, rattling sound.

It turned out that the rear header had cracked the #2 cylinder's tube, about 1" from the flange on the cylinder head. It probably took a while to work the crack all the way around, but it was a 5 hour drive from when it sounded OK when I left, but the header tube was cracked all the way and the tube vibrating against the stub of the tube on the flange was making the terrible metallic clanking.

On removing the rear header, I found that 3 of the 4 primary tubes had previously had cracks welded up, it was not in good shape! I bought a set of Tubi headers from T Rutlands for a surprisingly good price, and so far I've only installed the rear header - the requirement to remove the right side fuel tank to get the front header out and in has deterred me from that job, and the front has no indications of cracks like the rear in the subsequent 1.5 years.

I created a thread about my cracked header with a bunch of photos here: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/308-328-sponsored-yellow-compass-group/461379-308qv-manifold-leak-cracked-header.html
