I have a 1999 360, mint with 21k miles on it. I swapped in the TCU that was put in the 03 and 04 cars and the car has been reliable, fun and relatively trouble free for the near two years and 6k miles I have owned it. The ECU's were replaced by Ferrari about a year before i bought it as well so it passes California SMOG without issue. It also has the updated Trans mount from the 430 and the latest engine mounts.

I was talking with some other car enthusiasts last week and when they head my 360 was a 1999 model you would have thought it was a POS. I don't understand this at all. To me if anything the 1999 would be the best of all worlds with the upgraded and expertly programmed TCU. Having no precats is a plus to me and the car is visually indistinguishable from an 04. It's loaded with Shields, Challenge Grill, Electric Seats, Piping on the seats, deviated stiching on the dash, etc. Really it's missing nothing

Is there anything in reality that is "better" about later model 360's. I would think my well sorted 99 with the updates and options above would be perhaps more desireable, not less.

Just wondering what the community's thoughts are

I think you need to stop taking what people who clearly don't know anything about Ferrari's seriously. Who are you hanging out with? Corvette owners? ;)

The 99's (mine is a euro) were the closest to the design spec that Ferrari issued. They didn't have extra crap tacked on as necessitated by the EPA. They did have some small design flaws that were corrected such as gutters on the engine panels and extra bracing on the engine mounts.

All those things will have been corrected by now and your car is for all practical purposes the same as a 2004. The differences being you don't have to worry about precat killing your engine and a few extra causes for a CEL.

What else did they say? It costs $10,000 a year to own one? There's alot of people (myself included) who talk out of their rear end. Part of the art is knowing when to call them out and when to acknowledge when they're accurate.

The 99's had weak brackets on the frame for the motor mounts and they can break. They need regular inspection to be sure they have not started to crack. They do not have air injection which is a plus.

I have a 99 model, with 32k miles, when is purchased it recently had a PPI performed. Only issues were worn ball joints and engine mounts. From what I know standard issues for all 360's.

Most major issues would have been dealt with by now as well.

My car runs like a dream. I wouldn't worry about what others say.

Some people have to talk down to anything that they do not have. Everything that all of the posts have said so far is correct in my book. You will find out when you put it on the market, You will then know what the score is.

A clean and well sorted '99 would probably be my first choice for a 360.

This all makes sense, thanks, also the first year video was accurate from my experience. My 99 was pretty much loaded tot he hilt, had medium miles on it (16k) when i bought it and has been a gem. By upgrading the TCU and the trans and motor mounts I think it's as good as it gets. More miles and smiles hopefully to come

Were the rain gutters a part of a recall campaign? I don't recall seeing that on the list.

To the OP: Do you have a Spider or a Modena? The only thing I am aware of on the 99 Spider there is some sort of an extra brace, or such, that needs to be taken off to do engine maintenance. This apparently makes the labor more expensive.

If all the recall campaigns were performed, no other substantial differences,

Nope and the rain gutters were only the very early cars.. like first 50 or 100 or something.. I didn't know there was a 99 spider?

You are right. :) I was thinking of the first year of the Spiders, maybe 2001?

And the 99's have no pre-cats in the headers. Slight HP advantage, some say better sound, and less risk of engine implosion due to failure.

I have had several people tell me the 99 model year is the only one they would buy.

    Ignore the naysayers and enjoy.

Dude makes ALOT if assumptions. Like maintaining value, no major repairs needed, who is doing the work (Indy vs Dealership), qualifying for the loan, etc etc. I think if anyone is making $6k a month is buying a 360 and thinks they can afford it without a $10k reserve fund or doing work themselves... they're potentially looking at a world of hurt.

Mine must be a very early model then as i do not have the rain gutters, never have seen an issue there though. When i clean the car i wipe down the engine bay anyway and it looks showroom now still

My 2001 coupe (definitely after the first 50 or 100 cars) has the rain gutters.
