Tom congratulations on the article about your collection, bought the issue saturday. Nice mention of your car and it is a plus that readers will note your comments, as a collector, confirming a Khamsin is much more modern and convenient to drive, albeit with loads of charisma, than a Ghibli. Not many realize that and while it is stated in every article the fact that a collector who owns both says it will get more people to realize it which is positive for K's. You might want to discuss your Bora in the Bora thread, funny that the journalist did not mention it at all. Best regards, Marc
Its really difficult to say. I think the Brooklands car was better? The Goodwood car looked like it had been made to look good to sell, not restored like the write up in the catalogue detailed. the paintwork looked very fresh, the interior the exact opposite. underneath did not display the work of a full restoration (unless it was a long time ago). Other things like the black plastic inserts at the rear, where the fuel cap is were painted poorly. I did not get the feeling it was I solidly restored car but more so, things would come to the surface as the car is owned... Unless it was bought with the intension to do work... Personally, I prefer the patina of a solid original car not one that looks better than new...
Dear Khamsin lovers, been following this thread for years and even more so now because after many missed out chances I finally took the maybe last one to get a Khamsin (thanks to Dr. K). It was posted here before as it appeared on Autoscout some time ago and was quickly pulled off again (thanks for the reminder, Marc). It was originally delivered to Japan and was there all its life. Unfortunately been sitting in a not so dry place over the last 10 years. Should be in a container on its way to germany soon. I shall report as soon as it reaches these shores. Thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge here. Appreciate all the input All the best Dirk Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Congrats Dirk! We eagerly await the next episode it would be great to see photos as you open the container. Nice to see a car come out of Japan, it is only the third K that has traveled from the land of the rising sun to Europe (out of 31 sold there). Best regards, Marc
Hello Dirk... Congratulations !!! And welcome to a very exclusive Owners Club (in terms of numbers)! What year and number is your K? I believe you own some other Maserati Cars as well... What cars do you own? Mike
Hey Marc, yes, i will definitely take some pictures once it arrives. Feel like a kid before christmas. Hey Mike, the VIN is AM120*208 and according to Fabio Collina it was produced on Sept 20th 1976 Always thought that Maserati didnt build any cars in 1976 but i suppose De Tomaso was already at the helm then. The seller told me the car is from 1977. It will take a while for the K to be restored as there are other projects first in line. Have 30 years to go before I retire so I hope they are ready by then best Dirk
Thank you Dirk! Don't you also own a Mexico or a Kyalami as well? Also, what is that box attached to the passenger tunnel? You have your work cut out for you, but you will enjoy it! Mike
Hey Mike, Yes indeed. M, 2x K + I. Too many for sure. 1 should be enough Think the box is a CD changer. Not a very discreet location Marc, hope there will be more in the container Dirk
That's good news Dirk... There are very few of us who both a Mexico and a Khamsin!!! Shows class, I think ! See Marc, even with my factory-correct US bumpers, (note the words FACTORY CORRECT) I still have some class ... Mike
Dirk... You have probably already seen this picture... But, pretty soon you will be taking pictures like this!!! Mike Image Unavailable, Please Login
Yes, very nice Mike. Unfortunately it will take long until I will be making pictures like this as both have to be fully restored first. One already seems like a lifetime project so lets see how long that will take. Your cars look great. Luckily I won't have to transform the bumpers on the K Dirk
Dirk.. I am looking forward to seeing many more pictures of your car when it arrives in Deutschland! So make sure to post a lot of them... Was your K delivered to the US market originally, and then converted to the Euro bumpers later? I ask, because when looking at the very first picture you post, I noticed the turn signal pod on the passenger lower front, yet the turn signal is in the front bumper... Perhaps these pods were not just on US cars! Marc??? Mike
Hi Dirk, Mike (Mike aren't the bumpers on your car meant for the pick up truck next to it? Just wondering, they would look really elegant on it;-) To answer you these pods were on some if not all Japanese cars and no 208 never came to the US, ALL cars sold new to the US had the AM120US suffix followed by four digits. A small handful of Euro cars were privately imported into the S however but 208 has only ever been in Japan after delivery as far as I know. Two K's were sold new in Japan before passing through the US and ending up in Europe: 192 and 272. By the way a friend of mine in Germany who occasionally posts here has a K and a Mexico as well Greetings from a genuine spring day in France Marc
Yes, so far i can only underline what Marc said. Came with EU bumpers and has only been in Japan so far. The combo Mexico/Khamsin seems to be quite popular. Think I am aware of at least 4 lucky owners of both
Ahhhh yes 232! One of my top 5 favorite Khamsins, had it for a day at the 8 K meet in August 2010, just open the door to your leggy blond Goddess passenger and head for lake Como, say Grand Hotel Tremezzo ahhhhh Ahem sorry for dreaming out loud;-) Yours truly in it that day on the the right, main photo, a very special day: http://www.maseratikhamsinregistry.com/ M
... and another one in Spain: 1975 Maserati Khamsin | Venta de Coches clásicos de colección desde 1968 | Francisco Pueche best Herbert
Think 232 is still among my favourite khamsins as well even though my favourite is being rebuilt by a friend here in berlin at the moment in verde scurro. Its been for sale for a while at leo peschl, right? Funny that it also appears in the sold section. Remember it being for sale at lutzinger cars 2 years ago. Back then it wasnt taped with tridents though
There are some variations on wiper-arrangements, but what is the correct colour for the wiper-arms on a very late Khamsin? Mine are painted silver, and this somehow doesn't seem correct. \Thanks, Jack.
Just saw this at the website dnrestorations.com: http://dnrestorations.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/DSC_6387-960x500.jpg?290da0 with this text: "We have recently completed a conversion for a Maserati Khamsin from automatic gearbox to manual gearbox. This included refabricating some parts that are not obtainable new." US car apparently, they also fitted a speedo in km/h.
Hello AMLC, This is AM120US1114 long in a museum in the extreme south east of Germany, identical to my ex car except for the auto box. DNRestorations is a super qualified shop and David is a very interesting person...who now owns me a free lunch since I suggested to the owner R that he should enroll him to do the conversion;-) Here some photos of 1114 in that sleepy little museum by the Czech/Austrian border a few years ago. This may be the same car which was also in the much bigger not to say huge Sinsheim museum north of Stuttgart, south of Hockenheim for a while 10-15 years ago. A very trivial question if I may: What is the correct colour and finish for the wiper-arms on a very late Khamsin? Thanks! Jack.
Jack, I'll check mine is over weekend. They are silver but I don't think they're painted as I remember picking up old stock wiper blades to match at a jumble some years back. Bal
