Hi guys, Today I was at control technic in France , and they said that I need to change head lamps lights because I bought my car in UK and they have different , due to RHD . Is it hard to change ? Thanks
The lights in the pop up od are held with 4 screws, the other ones with the plexi covers, yes they are hard & annoying. Go to the local Ferrari workshop it is better for them to do it.
As I understand they need to order parts from Factory ? Because dealer said it can't be simple change from RHD to LHD.
I will when I will be with my car, because my dealer take care of it without me. Is it really rare ?? The headlights for RHD ?
I think this is to do with changing aiming of the headlight beam which is towards the left of centre for countries that drive on the left like UK to aiming right of centre for Europe. I believe (but those more knowledgeable here may correct me), the parts are the same, but a fiddly adjustment is required. The factory now supplies only headlights adjusted for Europe, and that may be why your dealer is suggesting a change of unit. Adjusting will be definitely cheaper than a new unit for sure.
As I understand dealer can't adjust it without parts from factory. I hope I will not need to buy new headlights unit ;(
UK spec F40s would have had combined mph/kph speedometers and lights aligned to suit, but were still LHD. Brunei has the same roads set up as the UK and the Sultan liked all his cars to be RHD to suit which is why his 6 cars were converted. Funnily enough I was looking at the mould for a RHD F40 dashboard just last week
Contact DK engineering or any of the other dealers in the UK, I imagine they would be interested in purchasing your UK spec headlights and may well have a set of the European spec ones from previously converted euro spec cars coming to the UK in the past so may want to do a swap with you.
My car was originally from Spain, then it was in UK where I bought it. Also I don't have combined MPH/KMH only KMH , because it's EU specs , only lights was adjusted to UK standarts.
Hello tryptomine, the F40 headlights are build very much alike the front lights for the Alfa Romeo SZ (and the Aston Martin Vantage and Lancia Hyena and some Lamborghini Diablo's). The reflectors in these headlights can be changed by opening the lights and reversing them internally. For an overview of the provedure, see the link to the International Alfa Romeo SZ and RZ register of Eduard van de Beek under techtips. Alfa Romeo SZ ( ES-30 ) It is detailed in techtip number 11 and in the section of headlights . There are a number of different versions and suppliers (fi. SIEM for the F40 and Carello for the Lambo's). If you don't trust yourself, your dealer might look into it. The lights and glasses are out of stock with Ferrari, Alfa, Aston Martin and Lamborghini but can be bought sometimes on fi. ebay. Robin.
I found that the headlamp unit is the same as on 355 ! It's easy than I thought lol (lights are the same as on F40 part number too) http://www.clubscuderia.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?6457-F355-How-to-adjust-headlights-for-European-driving
